I will try and make a piece for the current EOW. I don't know if I'll finish it, just very busy at the moment. But here is what I have so far.

a non central perspective would be more interesting on this enviro. the peoples on the street are cool, looks like ghosts.
I like the idea, the enviroment and colors too. some details would be nice on the guy in the light. also he lookz too small for me.
because im not shure where beginn the lightning.
hmm, it's not your best work, in your best days you did a better picture with left hand and the mouse.
but time has chanched, your now 33 years old, and for that you did a good job.

Oh, okay... that's what I use, but I find it hard to get even tones with the mechanical pencil, or 'wide' strokes..if that makes sense.

I like this environment too. Nice colors.

and you should finish it hehe

about the rendering i like it.. but maybe you could improve it by
( i dont know if u did this already ) but by studying old master sketches
and paintings
(da vinci, rembrandt etc, jus google and you find them)
and look how they render and how they put down there strokes
i do this to and i learn alot by it ..cause they make alot of lines
and alot of different lines hard, soft, curly, sharp, diagonal lines etc

hope its a bit helpfull advise

Love your stuff great updates. In that EoW piece, I know that what is posted is still early on but I can't wait to see some darker values in the foreground to shift focus to the figure. (if that is indeed the focus) keep up the great posts!

It looks awesome!! I agree with MonkeYoakum though, the pic could use some even darker values in the foreground, right now it feels.. not dark enough =P And what about some street lamps or something, some small light sources? It's just an idea but I think it would look nice. Good luck

I'm liking the EoW so far... but I have to ask, is the color choices to make it look vintage? Or is it just too warm...

I would suggest color-wise to toss in some blues or greens to really help out on the color balance of the image.

Also, the size of the figures in comparison to the buildings seems a bit out of place. The guy getting electrified / exploding or whatever, seems like he would have to be VERY far away for him to be that small in comparison to the size of the windows and doors and things.

Just some things I notice on a quick glance over.

This is cool. I tried to tinker around with in ps because, as others have said, it's pretty monochromatic. The strong red that dominates the hues atm will fight everything if you plan to paint more more subdued temperatures into it later on. When i tried to put yellow in there, the seemingly "warm" reds on the bridges becomes more purple and "cool" in temperature. Whatever i do, the colour relations will be too 'wide apart' (in lack of a better expression).

Another thing, I'm not sure if this is happening outside or inside. Atm, i get the idea that this happens in some huge, hellish cave (à la The Black Frog's visions of hell).

Try to cool down (or desaturate, or both) most of the image and reserve the intense hues for the focal point. I turned the values that are the furthest away in the background way up, allmost matching the whites that surrounds the main character. This actually strengthens the imression of him as a major light source. I agree that the foreground could appear darker, but try to do that by placing some dark shadow accents, rather than a "glazed" dark value. I think it could be done well by being more specific with the design of the architecture in general.

Despite all of your fantastic feedback, I decided to leave that contest be. I realized lalely that all those Chows, Eows, etc. don't do me any good. I get too excited about it and care way too much about the result, which kind of defeats the idea of doing those fun little contests.
But more than that, my work has been really complex lately and I need to focus my creative energy on things I get paid for. I have a gigantic legacy of Batman, resting on my shoulders and giving me lots of pressure to cope with.
So I decided to get back to those boring studies again and keep learning stuff I need to, like anatomy and environments. That way, I can at least do my position justice.

Nice, the simplicity of the drawings make sure that every bit of attention goes to the most essential part in figure drawing, the pose, the movement, the flow of the figure...
It's a good thing that you noticed that you were getting stressed from doing the contests, I think that there are people out there who feel stressed and who don't have fun doing them but they aren't aware that they put to much stress on themselves.
It allways should be about having fun.
