Anders i would like to see some serious anatomy studies from you man. Show us some arms and shoulders and legs and full body studies. And then show us how you can apply it to your next drawings as well.

Your drawings are always great to see, but imho they are just not helping you develop. I want to see some really in depth studies man! gimme gimme gimme!

YES! I really, really want to. Which is why it's very cool that that's what we'll be doing in school this year! Shouldn't be too long 'til I have some studies for you.

too bad she doesn't have a face A point of improvement could be to work more on feet and boots, so your characters can have a firm grip on the ground. Oh, and I love the little ghost, he would make a nice sidekick

Hehe, funny you should say that as the way the hair is covering the face is the starting point for that drawing. I wanted to draw hair covering the face in exactly that way, and then I just kept going, and then it turned out the way it did.

Here's a relatively quick one from ref.

Edit: A little warning: I did this on my laptop, and it looked fine, but now that I look at it on my stationary, it looks too yellow. So my guess is that my laptop is a little funky with the colours... Anyway, just keep that in mind. And if someone can tell me how to fix it, that would be great

Hi, nice improvement in the last stuff you've been posting, I think you're probably spending a little more time in each work.
This last one looks promissing, hope to see you taking it further, if you want to make it less yellow you can probably play with the colour balance, but you can also assume it in this yellowish tone, it isn't looking bad.
You probably should try to adjust your laptop screen colours, I guess you could do it, puting it besides your other computer with the same image in the screen and adjust the properties until they look similar.

Pretty varied sketchbook, like it, you've done quite a bit of drawing. Different media, settings, etc. You don't seem to lack ideas. Nice amount of quick sketches also, stuff like in #253. There has been growth in your sb.
You seem to be having anatomy lessons, but you haven't posted studies, so I'm a bit uncertain there. I have to say the last drawings seem better than those before, mainly proportion wise. I do think you could use some refinement in the actual body structure, and that's where the studies kick in.
I do realize you've heard it a couple of times before, and that last post was a while ago, so this is probably old news.

I'm looking forward to your next update! I'd love to see what you've been working on, and where you're at right now.

Here's what I gave to my family (father, mother, brother, sister) for christmas. They're all A4 sized. One of the following days I'll get my ass in gear and upload some of the nude 'studies' we did at school. (It's more like croquis than studies, but ya know)

its great to see how much progress you have made, the only crit i can give at the moment is to check out your face structure, etc. position of eyes, nose, mouth and of course size!
but otherwise its nothing but props for you mate!

On your pastel, She looks like she's about to fall because the balance is not there. Her right torso ( your right) should be more compressed or "squished" because of how her left torso ( your left) is being stretched. You should emphasize that fact. This "stretching" and "compressing" happens all over the figure. You could find it by bending your arms, wrist, neck, legs, feet, fingers, toes, etc. As far as proportion is concerned, the crotch might be too high, I can't really say because I don't know what the pic looks like, but it seems to me you should lower it a bit.

Here are two more nude studies in oil pastel. Used photo reference for both. I think the second one could do well with some more contrast. Not too happy about the first one, but it was done quicker than the other two.

Now that I'm uploading these, I see that I've forgot to mark her bellybutton on the second one. The absence of that little dark line there really has a big impact. Damn.

Edit: All of these are A3-sized, by the way.

Love the presents for your family Good you joined another SSG. I wish I could be more active in this SSG, but internet is a lesser priority than actually drawing and painting.

You seem to love the oil pastel It is a little crude in de faces, although the last one is much better already. Did you know you can thin oil pastel with turpentine (what was it in english again... the same as you use with oils). It is also possible to use watercolor first and then color over that with oil pastel... Could be nice if you tried things out to suit you

The first model drawing is very good, in that one you can really feel the weight!

Hey there Anders,

Nice gifts! distinct characters and a nice group together. Nice folds in the 3rds clothing, liking him the most overall. (he has pouches too! not sure if you've followed the Liefeld topic in the Lounge) They do seem a little short. I think you've lost a little bit of fluent, spontaneous anatomy while working on those details and renderings. Are those actual portraits of your family?

Those fast studies look pretty good, no crits there.

Nice oil pastel studies. Looks like a good medium to practice color and get some fluent shapes down. Seems pretty tough to get decent detail going though. Ah well, I'm not familiar with that stuff at all. Good luck with it

Think in terms of planes. I suggest Loomis for that( I know, people are probably tired of hearing his name.). Also think in terms of value. You probably need more contrast and darks in your pastels. Try doing one in just black and white. The key here is to analyze. I recommend doing more anatomy studies and studies on proportion. Good analyzation will give you a good drawing even if the end result doesn't resemble what you're drawing.
