This was my first completed painting in Painter.
I used the Chinese woman from Memoirs of a Geisha for reference.

    A self portrait of sorts.
Started out painting over an image and did the second half freehand.

My goofy dragon I did for fun
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 hours.

A 2 hour painting I did for a speed painting challenge.
my first attempt at back lighting.

All taken from internet pictures (softcore porn anyone?) and sketched on cheap paper.
    I really need work here...

hey man got a good start here bravo, keep at those figure drawings as they seem to need the most work when compared to the standard of your digital paintings

thanks, and no kidding... figure drawing kills me, always has.

anyone know any good resources for it? im stuck in Japan at the moment and finding a figure drawing class will be hard enough, stomaching what will surely be an insane price will be even harder. my gf wont let me get near her with my camera, much less with clothes off. im going to go into the city today and take my camera, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

    more nudes

some more practice nudes i did today. these things sure kick my arse.

Men are somewhat ok because i have found that i can use muscle locations for reference in building the structure, but women give me all kinds of trouble.

(sorry the image is funky, i had to adjust the image i got from my camera cause it was awful. no scanner...)

    today's stuff

    howdy again

here is today's stuff. for some reason it always looks better WHEN im doing it. then i step back afterwards and think "wtf"... but oh well. live and learn.

if anyone has ANY feedback, suggestions, anything, please let me know. thanks! I really want to figure out what it is that's holding me back, askide from lots more practice. but these just dont look very fluid or convincing. *sigh* (oh, and the levels were slightly altered in PS on these so that you could see them clearer as i dont have a scanner... )

Well today i went to norther Osaka to the 1970 expo grounds. came back dead ass tired so this is all i got done. i think i will do more with it tomorrow as it looks ok. gonna build me a cyborg. the character's left arm shoudl be big, but the rest should be mostly correct i hope. this is done without reference. C&C greatly appreciated.

(... his feet suck. will fix those tomorrow)

My heads are horrid so i thought i would spend some time studying an artist i really admire. ( Kim Hyung-Tae ) His faces are really top notch if you are into the whole anime look.

so here you have it. C&C greatly appreciated.

Thanks! the faces were more for that style. Kim (Korean artist) does awsome stuff and i just wanted to take a stab at what he does. i need more control over my lines though and overall i need to greatly reduce my line count. i think it will come with moce confidence of shapes. right now im still stumbling through my sketches... now off to your sketchbook... =)

Bla... im so far behind where i was before... its depressing. anyway, here are some head studies from picture references. and a sketch i did for fun. gotta work a bit of fun in there. C&C welcome

and one last one i did. its one of those "one line" drawings. i did pick up in order to keep painter running, but i tried to put the pen back down where it was. his head is in the wrong location, but it was fun to do.

    Howdy,

    Tonight's work.

Didnt get as much drawing in as I wanted yesterday but i did end up ordering "Dynamic Figure drawing," "Dynamic Anatomy," and "Dynamic Hands." so i should have some good referenceshere soon. (Amazon.co.jp sucks... it takes them over a week to even ship)

But here is what I did get done. I wanted to study muscles a bit again so i went to a bodybuilding site and went from there. then i did a couple ladies for fun.

    cheers!

Interesting stuff here. I like the anatomical drawings, working on those more might help you refine you anime stylization, or you could try to blend the two, I don't know how that would turn out to be.

I still think that the pieces are fine works.

Doyle' - Thank a ton. I still have a long way to go, but its finally moving again.

The Crazy Dude SRD - Thanks. Yes, i do like an animation style, but the best stuff out there i feel is the life-like animation. where detail, color and shading are all "real world" but the figures are not. In my mind, it keeps things more imaginary. so thats what im shooting for. But bad anatomy makes it just look like poo. so here i am.

    again, thanks!

Well, I had some massive server issues this last weekend and I'm still getting them worked out. But I am pretty sure that you all should be able to see pictures from it now. So here is what i have been working on the last few days.

Got my Hogarth books so here are a few studies from the anatomy book. I must say, he likes his men of epic proportions. but studying is studying.

These are from my sketchbook i carry with me. I teach private english lessons (believe it or not) and sometimes i have a bit of waiting to do before a lesson. Some stuff is from my head, some is based on what i see. too bad im not better...

and this guy was just done for fun. It was partially an exercise in color and technique as i tried to loosen up over what i usually do. took about an hour and a half from sitting down with pencil and paper to calling it quits with color in painter.

    cheers!

awesome updates! those studies are really starting to pay off
the last digital with the japanese chick is great. Though
there is something with the fabric that i cant put my fingers on
but dont worry its really cool

The last one is funny ^^ though the tail wraps abit wierd.
and his arm is abit out of proportion, but overall its overall,
    awesome

ill b back later as promised before, cya!

    thanks man.

yeah, the girl has lots of issues. i look at her, and thend Kim (the korean artist, artbook Oxide2x) or our own Alien1452 (i always forget the numbers) and i break down and cry.
still have a long way to go. working with colors is hard enough, throw anatomy and fabrics in there and im in over my head. but its coming.
