I was accepted to FIT! Comin to New York!

Hey NYC:ers and all other lovley people!! Ill be going tosee some of you all soon, as I was accepted at FIT in New York!

(Cooper Union however only sent back a letter saying HAHA in big capital letters...meh, their loss!)

Im gonna come over in the middle of August, and I am of course looking for someplace to stay! So if you know anyone whos has a flat, spare room, loft, bedsit, apartement, tent in central park or cardboard boxes on the street, please drop me a PM! Ill consider anything, even large expensive lofts!

Im really looking forward to meeting my old friends from november last year, and many new ones too!

Any other great advice/experiences on livin in the Big Apple from all you is also welcome ( cheap grocieries, areas to stay the hell out of, etc)

Big super thanks to ruskie mate Arkady for printing and sending my porfolio out, and a special thanks to sensual Scott for mental support!

Life starts now! You guys,, Im so happy I could shit my pants!

Im having some trouble accessing my personal page an the PM section, so you can email me about any palce to live at: timothy-jan.atkins AT berghs.se (replace AT with the saucy @ sign! No spaces between!)

I also posted this in the NYC section, but hopefully more will see it here too.
    Cheers Tim

Well after looking at Cooper Union website, it doesn't look like they'd be able to offer you anything in realism. Look at how many students are going to schools like this and getting a fine art degree... where do they all go? How many people have gone on to good art jobs from a school that teaches abstract as their main focus? I think FIT will be better, besides it matters more on how YOU develop your craft. Good luck man.

    Yeah!
Big congrats, Tim!! And welcome back. At the risk of sounding like a typically obnoxious New Yoker, there aint no better place on Earth!

They go on to become art directors at Tor Books. But I know what you are saying. I ended up in the design department since they were the most disiplined. It's a great school, but it's so small that you really have to fit into _excatly_ what each department is doing. It makes it a great school for some and horrible for others, regardless of the students abilities.

Tim, for the NY schools, you are at the right place.

Tim if you need a place to crash for a week or two to get situated and go apartment hopping you're welcome to crash on my couch. I don't think Arkady 2.0 would mind too much. besides, he was out of town most of August last year anyways.

Well I stuck my foot in that one. I guess I associated it with my own education, which I believe was a major rip off. Anything valuable I learned was from the books. Sorry for the bad press on Union. There's just too many colleges chunking out so called "artist". I don't wish that on anyone serious in learning art.

Congrats timpaatkins, FIT is a great school. If you take advantage it will prepare you well for professional life in this city... I'd say moreso than any other art/design related school here will.
