Once upon a time this space wombat knew not how to create a tiled texture, hard to believe it is.

Here's how in case u find this searching on the topic. In photoshop use the offset filter, it will offset your image for you, then match the edges. It helps to use the clone stamp tool, and also a bit of traditional hand painting helps to unify the texture.

Something good to remember is procedurally generated patterns based off the clouds filter with dimensions that are 2^n pixels a side will tile. You could use variations of such patterns generated to form the basis of a set of matching points where your pattern tiles.

You could also try one of them java applets where you can draw whatever you want and it tiles a pattern for you. I searched for a particularly good one but could not find.

Thanks for the help. Is pattern maker a filter for photoshop?

I need to create a simple background that each side fits together perfect. It will be the whole background of an astroids remake. So Im gonna do a sort of cloudy red background something like 600x250.

Ive never tried doing this before, but at this point im trying to match the sides by hand in a number of different ways. Its not working well enough though.

If it's a cloudy red background you may be able to get away with a resized permutation of the clouds filter. Unless you want cartoony or *gulp* photoreal clouds or the like.

Also Im doing animation for this project, and Im sure Im doing it the hard way. They want png files, so Im doing it in photoshop as well. I start with a psd and do the animation on seperate layers then save each layer as a png...

But it takes a while swaping back and forth through the layers. I wish there was a more streamlined way to animate, and easy way to swap through the frames and paint...
