Thanks Guys, you´re awesome, and far too kind. rendered out these two fellas. Noone else seems to be doing Timm-style stylization noir characters so I figured I might do it myself =D I´m such a fan of Bruce Timm.

Lifedrawing. Various lengths. A bit rusty, and sooo much to learn! Fun though.

Keep it up!![]()
I love these peeps.
The rendering in post #721 is great. May I ask how long it took? ;>

Sorry for the absence folks.
Thank you for your kind compliments and encouraging words.
@Ramalooke: I´m not entirerly sure to be honest. I think around 5-8 hours on the detective including my experimentation phase. I tried different levels of finish and did some colours. In the end I went with a B&W style to try and stay closer to old noir movies. The girl went faster since I had already established a style, maybe 3 hours. Patience is important!
Some lifedrawing and moleskine. Damn, I need to improve on my lineweight. If you see more flaws please feel free to point them out. I´d greatly appreciate it.
Take Care!
loving these sketches very fluid and accurate. ur rendering style is even more awesome!

Wow, i found this blog.
http://invisibleinkblog.blogspot.com...ging-verb.html
this really sums up some of my current thoughts on drawing.
"So what if when we sat down we gave ourselves a task other than producing words: Changing the verb from writing to storytelling may change the way we think about the work.
This would require thinking more than we wrote. We have years of training telling us that thinking is not working. But it’s the hardest work of all. Producing words is relatively easy if they don’t have to add up to anything. Or if one believes that somehow a story will be born out of the act of typing."
mmmm. And some drawings. Next time, I want to post stories.

Thanks for the great reminder of us as storytellers. Definitely will help keep the creativity intact inside of me. Always a fan of your stuff, saw up in PC the predom war stuff you did, pure awesome.
really awesome noir renderings. really well done! im a lot messier than that :s would love to learn how to get that smooth yet realistic tone and texture.
ur rendering and sketches are mindblowing !
Truly impressive stuff, kaktuzlime. Your progress from 2006 is a constant inspiration.
I've got to ask: Are there any sources of study you would recommend? Any books, websites or videos that have helped you a lot? I'm always interested in what helped people get to where they are.
Really fun drawings and studies!
Running a little short of time, going to a concert soon.
Knarf - Thanks! =D
Sunny - Thanks buddy. I really want to push away from that smooth look myself and become more painterly, like Anders Zorn. I guess the trick is to use a soft smooth airbrush, and be patient and spend lots of time =) will yield a smooth result.
Yor - Thanks! I´m really not all that![]()
Superet- Hi mate! Thanks for the complimentsI wrote a pretty long post about learning and attitude a couple of pages back.
http://conceptart.org/forums/showpos...&postcount=660
The short version is basically, "The drawing manual" by Glenn Vilppu, and "Drawn to life" by Walt Stanchfield. I list some other sources in my post. I´d happily answer more specific questions you might have. Take care and good luck in all of your drawing endeavours! =D
Mr. Scribbles - Thanks! Too kindI´m always happy to be able to entertain!
More Skechbook. Dominancewar starts soon!! I´m sooooo Stoked! =D =D =D
Take Care!
Wow, thank you, kaktuzlime. I'll definitely look into those books - no pun intended.
Let me know if you're ever up for being a mentor. ;D
Damn, those faces are FANTASTIC.
sweet update again. would love to see more digital in the near future.
keep it up!
Superet- Thanks, I´m glad to be able to help. Everything you need to learn to become a great illustrator you can learn on your own. I´m flattered by your consideration, but I don´t have time for anyone but myself at the moment.
ChateNoire- Thanks! =D I love faces!
Yor- Thanks buddy! Doing digitals is kinda hard for me since I don´t have a working computer (and too poor to buy one), and everything I create here at the office automatically belongs to the company. I guess I could do fanarts and studies =) Dominance war is a exception though, so I´ll post a bunch of process shots from that![]()
I was given a free ticket to a concert by an old man who attends the same lifedrawing as I am. He plays the violin in the orchestra, and we wound up talking about french impressionism. Anyway, the conductor was a blast to try to draw. He was russian. Rarely do you see such displays of life and passion in real life.
My attempt at trying to capture some of his gestures. Nothing high brow, but in my opinion, far more difficult than a 10 hour rendering. There´s nothing to hide behind. Trying to find the emotions and impulses prompting the poses. On a technical level trying to focus on angles and lines of action.

i must confess i don't like this style, it is not close to my aesthetic, but this is killer work, i am amassed by quality of it.
5*

You've got some great movement in your gestures and the hands in post#739, Wow!
Just a question is there anything you would like some more in depth critique on, instead of just "great work"?
Since I and quite a few others like your stuff "mistakes" don't really jump out, so if there is something we(your fans) can do to help you just say so. Or just keep rocking it

Wow! I really love the energy and movement in your gestures. I like your designs too like the ones in post #739.
MatejaPetkovic- Thanks! Yeah, it´s not a style for everyone. It´s just the way I like to draw =) I´m happy some skill shows through. Thank you for looking and the stars. I really like your art!
Bruce- Thanks buddy! I always appreciate one line of critique more than a hundred of praise. I´m trying to focus on storytelling aspects, and I would in particular love thoughts and crits on how I´m not communicating a story clearly enough =) Obviusly rendering and drawing technique is always appreciated. And I love to hear how I´m not doing enough environments, because I dont. Whatever pops out as mistakes![]()
KT- Thanks Mate! =D
whoa, more life drawing! It´s the best practice, and the only place and time where I feel completely at home doing something good with my time & life.

Some Silhouette sketch design today. Urban samurai style.

ohh nice. they all give the impression of being the same character type, like they're variations for the look of a show. and the blonde one reminds me of bruce timm![]()

Always think about:
lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
And (self)motivation is still everything.
Thanks Carnifex! I´m glad, that was the pointI figured I´ve got nothing in my portfolio showing my explorationprocess. And thanks for the Timm compliment too

And what would any cartoon show be without villains?
