Overlay Old Paintings Effect

Hey all, quick question... I've been trying to learn about speed painting, and I was admiring M@.'s artwork. In his sketchbook, he mentions:

"Now I ALWAYS start by overlaying in different modes 2 or 3 different older speed paints or sketches... this makes things way faster."

From what I understood from M@'s thread, the artist basically made new compositions by comping together previously done sketches. He tried different blending modes until he found one that he likes. This way you get "free" textural and lighting effects. Definitely a speedy speed technique since you have an idea which direction you want to go as opposed to just coming up with something random from scratch.

Re: sparth's thread. I believe he was re-using previously discovered or created textures from previous paintings to detail out new paintings.

So, yeah...save your experimental sketches or accidental finds. Might come in handy someday.
