    Teen Challenge #3

Alright kids, time for round three. Rules are the same as before, anyone ages 14-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Once again, any medium is allowed. Your entry may include a short description.

    The Topic:
War Machine: Design a machine built specifically for doing battle. 'Machine' is fairly open to interpretation, but try to think big and powerful, like a vehicle or a fighting robot. The focus is on industrial design this time - if you do a robot, be sure to make it look like something that came off of an assembly line, not a unique character.

    The Deadline:
Wednesday, March 15 at midnight EST. You have three weeks for this one, so let's see some strong entries! When the deadline hits I'll set up a poll, unless of course an esteemed and qualified CA artist would be so kind as to judge for us.

    Good luck to all.

No, this is an industrial design, not a character design. The machine is something mass-produced solely for the purpose of battle. It can be something 100% mechanical like a tank. If you're inclined to make something that can operate without a pilot, like a robot, make it designed and programmed only to fight, not to think. An android is a character, not a machine. Does that clear things up?

    Oh, and one more thing.

NEW RULE: This topic isn't as self-explanatory as the last one, so brief descriptions will be allowed. They're not required, but if you feel your idea needs a little explaining, I will take it to poll along with your entry.

    oh, shame.
    ...war machine...
    this'll be extra-challenging for me.
i was thinking of something more like a droid when i read the topic :/
    haha.

finals week for winter quarter is in three weeks... guess i'll have to not procrastinate on this.
but yeh, i'll try to participate.

Nice looking WIP's, guys. I really like the dark mood in your sketch, Kronos

WIP UPDATED.... AGAIN.... AND AGAIN.... AND FINALIZED!:

Model 112-CX treaded conversion mech; a.k.a. the Centaur Tank

The centaur tank has proven to be a powerful advantage in ground warfare in recent battles. It requires two people to operate - a pilot who drives the tank and controls drone deployment, and a second person who, by means of a VR helmet and glove system, controls the firing system when transformed. In its compact tank form it is surprisingly fast and highly manueverable, even in rough terrain, and in battle mode, its dual plasma cannons can be aimed far more quickly and accurately than any other plasma turret system. On each side are three compartments, each of which holds a walking turret drone, which can deployed at the battlefront for supporting firepower.

I wouldn't exactly call it a tank-off, because there's more to my design than meets the eye...

The scene you draw it in is up to you. You can show it in action, draw it more blueprint-style, or if you're so inclined, do some of both. Just be sure to combine it all into one final image, because only one image will be taken to poll.

kujaku - Welcome. Now don't let me down, let's see a good first entry from you.

Here are the first sketches. Based on a new type of water propultion system I read about. It uses a sort of jet engine based on steam and the pressure it exerts on water. Read more here.

It is armed with a double machinegun/cannon on each side and supercavitation torpedoes. More info for those interested here

I see you guys have made giant war-machines. Oh well, small can be good too.

ehhh.....War machines, not feeling this. Hard to be original with weapons of mass distruction. Does it have too be mass produced? Something like kronos' fortress would be cool but not realisticly mass produced. I guess ill take a stab it this one.....

    @ dan,dan

ummm, not that i'm the organizer of this challenge, but i'm sure plate would agree that war machines shouldn't really limit the possibilities of originality. so my fortress thing couldn't "realistically" be mass produced right now and here, but in some fantasy land of doom! anythings possible....

don't feel limited, (hate to resort to this lame analogy) "think outside the box"

Kronos has it right, Dan. When I referred to something mass produced, what I meant was to avoid doing a character. Your design can be as imaginative and impractical as you like, just make sure it's all mechanical.

I apologize to every who dislikes industrial design, I was hoping people would be more open to switching subject matter for a round. If you don't like it and you're still submitting an entry, good for you for pushing yourself past your normal boundries. If not, just hang in there, because I imagine we'll be back to character design in the next round.

Also, I've updated my WIP in my earlier post. Lots more to come...

New lurker here -- this thread caught my eye, but I have a few questions. So:

    1) Are large, ultimate weapon of doomg-type things discouraged (even if they may be mass produced, industrial designs)?
    2) There's not any sort of unspoken rule about newbies posting in this forum, right?

Nope, again, the topic is pretty open to interpretation. "Large ultimate weapon of doom" would fit right in.

    2) There's not any sort of unspoken rule about newbies posting in this forum, right?
Of course not, just be sure to read the rules and guidelines, and follow them well. With that said, welcome and good luck!
