Vile looking creatures. I love them, they are really cringe worthy.

some doodlings.
trying to go faster so I can get more done. more iterations = better improvement for me at this time i think.
anyway, looser details. i have been finding it hard to knkow when to stop noodling so I should concentrate on that for a while.

Hey, cool looking critters you have there, really impressive the way you differ form and function. Also like your Z-brush doodles - the progress is clear to see from your first ones to the last. Perspective seems to be one of your stronger sides. Keep posting!![]()
Some good texture on these creatures. Very imaginative stuff. Maybe go into trying some more neutral or cute style of creature? Would be interesting to see. Haha. Good job anyway!

been busy as a bee last 4 weeks or so, not a lot of sketching has been going on I'm afraid. Still, I definitely still intend to get onto the paper with a manual instrument in the short term, I am nearly forgetting how to draw.
The other day I tried to control z when I was jotting soething down, and the reason was that I had started to write an address with underscores in it. Too much digitalisation for me lately. I need a fat lump of charcoal and some lovely toothy paper to counterbalance it or something.

haven't done one of my critters for a while - dug out my last set of alchemy shapes and picked one at random. I must have a prediliction for the aquatic and invertebrate because there is a definite leaning in that direction when I draw unplanned things.
anyway. must be more diligent. my progress has stopped somewhat which is annoying.

Well, OK, this is amazing. Are you using the dodge and burn tools for these black and white ones, because I see little bits of saturated green that those tools tend to add, or is that plain old dabs of color?
These creatures are fantastic, too. Do you make them up on the fly, or carry them around in your head and rework them over time?

Getting through the internet, one kitten video at a time.
not dodge and burn, but the same effect is happening because I have a really bad habit of not setting my value range early on, and everything is usually iin a small dark range - therefore I crank the levels after around 10 minutes to get the value range a bit more central and meaningful. I'm assuming this will bend any slightly saturated pixels in this way similar to dodge and burn. Thanks for pointing it out though, I will make a sincere effort to fix that habit, as it annoys me as well as causing these pixelly problems.
and I suppose they are in my head in a sense and I sometimes see repetition as i paint them so bits of my visual vocabulary are overlapping often but I try to just go with the shapes and paint chaotically, sort of an excercise for my brain to let everythnig out.
Next one I paint, I will saturate my mind with some reference an hour or so beforehand and make sure I nail the values early on.
Thanks for the comments - keeps me positive![]()

I like the tonal range you get with those little sketches, nice and contrasty. Gives them alot of impact. I'm trying my hardest to get that with fucking with levels but I guess it's pointless just do it. Awesome sketchbook btw, alot to be learnt just flicking through.
You're getting strong with the texture work, maybe for some others you could try a less textured look (or a different kind of texturing technique) to see how they compare?
Rockin'!

yeah ok - this one i laid off the texture spamfest and just painted it
still design-sparse and basically a mind-guff, but it keeps me sane to do them as much as I can so bear with me.
at least this one has a sting

variety is fun to create I find.
