JAKERS, what have you been doing all this time, studying?! The rendering on your paints has like jumped forward or something :o Really impressive!

    BAM!

Dunno why I missed the last update, but here I am now and, !!!

This is a lot of Highly finished stuff! Wow.

Out of all these I'd have to say that the B'and W' robo bug is my favorite. Tight rendering on that. Very cool.

Looks like you are working really hard on improving atmosphere, and it shows especially on the "alien in a jar" the "baby Iron Giant/skeleton robot thingy" and the last one with the sunight beeming down.

    Nice work POST MORE OFTEN.

yeah i will matey. me scanner's still bust, so im limited to digi stuff. I'm just trying to do the DSG as much as possible, and get some improvement from that in some way, until i can get the scanning scenario sorted out.

goddamn mortgages. if it wasnt for that i'd be able to just go buy one tomorrow.

cheers for the comments, more coming soon!

last 2 pics were done all in painter - im really keen to get a handle on this app and learn to exploit its special advantages.

anyone else using / learning to use painter atm? I'd be interested to hear about your experiences.

So the easter bunny finally shows his real face! I always new he was a creep. I mean what kind of rabbit leaves eggs lying all over the place?

These have been some great concepts of late, keep spitting out more!

I like the dsg you did with the robot swinging from the trees, great colors. You have a good eye for colors with your color paintings, they set a nice atmosphere in your pictures.

I'm loving the way you do a nicely detaied background, and then contrast it with a simple figure as the focal point. It really helps to emphisize your center of interest.

Great mood going, in these. You say you are using painter?

yarr, painter is the one at the moment, really fun to use now i've started to get past the teething problems.

its a wierd thing, but painter has taken me a while to get used to! and i'm sure i haven't scratched the surface yet

The only real concept in here is that "silly one you did for easter" , its really great.. the other stuff is kinda , cliché and a little boring . A lot of flat areas ( not as in value flat but huge areas that is empty ) which you could fill with details and make the concepts more interesting

    Keep it up!

That swinging robot looks so evil yet so cute, hurr hurr Giraffe beetle is such a great concept too, love the exoskeleton lighting.

Ah, so you're using Painter? What version? I have 7 but I'm definitely in the teething stage. That and no colour theory present in my brain.

ooh lot of replies! thx for taking the time!

@io - any painter from 7 up will do, im using 10 atm but i only use the bog standard wet acrylic brush, but customised.

here's another bit of painter noodling - a reinterpretation somewhat of a british 'bobby'

    ta for the comments guys.

as for the stuff not being concepty enough or being flat design wise, yeah I'm aware of it. Currently really concentrating on getting used to using painter and rendering with it, so the design is taking a bit of a back seat.

Maybe I'll give myself more than an hour for one of these and push the design a bit more...

    cheers!

*WAY* less dynamic than it could (should) haven been, but seeing as it's a victorian batman then i suppose you could argue that the reservedness kind of fits.

either way it was fun to do. I rushed the background to get done in time, i will re-do it later with better bats.

    Haha, victorian batman....

The bats look fine to me, I actually kind of like the way you did them.

I do sort of understand what they are talking about with the "flatness" A lot of the recent stuff looks like it was posed in fron of one of those photography studios backdrops, you know what I mean? Lots of diffused colors. I think if you try to give your bg's more depth it will help a lot. Remeber the distance haze. Values get lighter, and colors less saturated the farther back an object is.

those bgs are like that pretty much because I want to keep to the time limit as much as I can, so I develope some swiftness using painter.

I'm sure there'll be a backgroundy topic on a dsg soon, then I'll get rid of the wishy washy background altogether.

cheers for the comments, more coming as and when i get time.
