    unimaginably stagnant

Well here we go then. In a bid to ingrain some better regular drawing habits and get the old improvement curve going + in the y axis, here goes nothing!

Bits cobbled from scanned in bits of paper i've found around my desk, which means,
    a) they're from the last couple of months at the most, and
    b) they're probably rushed, broken and wrong. But that's what I'm here to fix, right?

So crits most welcome and i'm here to try and post every day - man it's going to take som commitment, but I may as well give it my best shot! :-D

<edit> ah just read about the attachment manager - gonna give it a shot!

aiming for lots of head studies and anatomy for one thing, so if there isnt any soon i've welched on the deal already. I might even go do some now - I feel motivated.

Maybe once people get a head of steam with slagging my work I will become even more motivated! do it! you know you want to! :-O

    cheers!

Keep drawing man! You can only get better by drawing like a mad man.
One thing I reckon you should practice on is more dynamic anatomy, In the first pic its all very stale. You should bend those limbs a little! Get out your favorite action movie and freeze frame to get some inspiration

Really great stuff, I hadn't seen your sketchbook until tonight, but I really like the ideas behind your work. And the painting is stellar.

nice, those look almost like analog, good solid anatomies there only thing bothering me is the lack of a visible left shoulder on the second figure from the left, it looks like you should be able to see it from that angle. The breakdancing/handstanding guy is looking great.

tricks of the trade are few and far between - i don't think theres any shortcuts. I'm miles from where I want to be in terms of invented anatomy, but i've come a long way from where i was say a year ago. I guess it's just about regular practise and drawing lots of studies. (which is why i wanted to start a SB - ive fallen out of the habit of drawing so often as ive got a lot of other things to use as excuses atm - naughty me!)

Good refs are bridgman, hogarth and the loomis books are decent too. Just drawing pages of studies from those will drip feed information into your brain and after a while some things will start to click about how the body works together.

Definitely worth picking up those books if you can, even if its one at a time, they're a real help. I think you can D/L the loomis books from somewhere - search the forums.

Other than that drawing shedloads seems to help. i know if i havent drawn stuff for a while there is a certain rusty uncertainty for the first few scribbles. must do more frequently

Dig the stuff you've been coming up with. Specialy the coloured creature and some of the poses. As like the falling gladiator on first page. Keep em coming.

Wow, i Reallly like the one with the dog that is in color. Also it seems like you have a good grasp on anatomy. Which is something i am still working on.
On the color dog picture though, how did you get that look for the fur? and what program did you use?

    later,

TY all 4 the kind comments!

@Maigo - the centaur beasty thing is just photoshop from start to finish. sketched it out, new layer for cleaner linework, then colored on another layer. The fur is just painted with a small brush and a bit of patience

I spent an hour or so sketching some poses from photos on sherdog.com. get some nice action poses there.
