Awesome! I love the contrast of painterly strokes with the rendering in the face.

The head proportion compared to the body is bothering me slightly, also the fur hood is too much on the large side.
Aside from that it is well executed, would be best if those two things were addressed though.

Smashing stuff! I really like the slight stylisation as well. The dogs are great, particularly the one at the back! I love 'His Dark Materials', and your take on Lyra is refreshingly different.

    Fantastic!

If I were to crit, I'd say the face looks a little bit old...It makes her look like a short adult. Just a little more softness and you can bring back her youth a bit. But honestly, this is a great piece!! I love the dogs! Nice color...Great mood, sweet _and_ apprehensive.

    Tiffany GREAT JOB!
Look at you, using thick impastos at the bottom of the painting...man...I am really impressed. I love the detail at the bottom of her coat...gorgeous touch.
I gotta see this in person.

I might have added more snow up in the sky...it's suggested (very tastefully I might add) towards the bottom, but snow generally falls from the sky (wise ass remark..sorry )

If I were to be really really picky...I might have neutralized some sections of her coat, so it's not all so warm toned. This might help that great face pop out more, especially if you added some greys around the fur in hood. I'm being really nit-picky now..cause I love ya and I know you are just gonna become like..the best illustrator ever

    Beautiful

hey! that's great! the only crit I have would be that the mountainy areas in the back could use a bit more atmospheric perspective, just softening the edges and making them slightly bluer and less saturated than the foreground. I think you did really well with the snow, that's a beast to paint!

That's more what I meant with the hood comment, rather than size, it would be best to make it recede.

Good job, Tiff. This is the first oil of yours I've seen that really delivers on the promise of the drawing. See what you can get the paint to do when you take your time?
Now, take a moment to bask in all the adulation...
    then do a better one.

Wow, I remember reading this book at one point or another. The cover for it was less than interesting and it really didn't tell you anything about the book. This, however, does an excellent job of giving insight into the book without revealing too much of the story. Wonderful work.

    wonderful rendering, wonderful colors.
she`s just adorable and the dogs are beautifuly done too.
the aurora borealis back there is just too damn good.

    2 crits -
the head of the girl seems too big in relation to the rest of her.
(or maybe her legs are too short, dunno...)

the projection coming from the compass seem too solid for a light projecting, and it lacks brightness and radiancy.
We all pay for life with death, so everything in between should be free.
