Would this foundation work be strong enough for a portfolio to college?

I'm sending it out next week so please critique as harshly as possible. This is pencil foundation work, done from life. =) I want to eventually go into illustration- entertainment design. College list- ACCD, RISD, SAIC and MICA.

You have nothing to worry about. Just make sure you have enough works.

Yeah, I'd say that quality of work is more than good enough to get into most colleges at an undergrad level. You might want to put in some colour stuff as well, and a lot of places like you to show range with media. But if all your stuff is that quality, then I'd say you have a very good shot.

Yes, and add more work. Your portfolio is judged on it's weakest piece. Don't wait around for better work. Apply, find out when your deadlines are and what each school requires. As you continue to evolve you will naturally make new better work and that work will replace other work in your portfolio which is something that will always be changing.

Thanks for the kind words, it really takes away some of the stress I've been dealing with for the past 2 months. This portfolio stuff is a killer when I have to balance time between doing that and academic school work. -______-

Mmm, I know what you mean. I'm a junior in an arts high school - generally speaking, I do a 4ft x 5ft painting per week. Generally don't get them finished on time, but it's still a bitch. Plus I'm taking AP classes. So by the end of the week I feel like shooting myself in the mouth.

You will get into any of them, though unless you REALLY like baltimore or want to do fine arts, I reccomend the other two over mica (I currently attend, but am trying to transfer to RISD, due to my love of the more "commercial" arts.)

Looks sharp.

It really depends on what art school you are trying to go into, but generally speaking you have nothing to worry about.

Just make sure your pieces are presented nicely (a tip from my admissions rep when I enrolled in film school 2 years ago...)

I'm now at the Art Institute of Indianapolis, and I think the standard for mounting your work is 1/8 inch border of black matte board?

Anyone hear anything different?

Hell yes it's good enough. You have work to do, but I've seen worse work from seniors at portfolio shows. Good luck.

I second the 'hell yes' part. Some of these images (especially the penciled ones) look better than what I've seen some of the sophomores and juniors do at my school...
