    Great Goroht Mars! Begin!

A lot of these are unfinished or WIPs (like the monster designs), but I'm gonna try to keep these suckers updated and since I'm gonna be doing a crapload of gestures for my drawing classes, and other self-imposed exercises, I'll be uploading those when they're done.

There are 2 sketchbooks I've currently drawn in. A thumbnail/storyboard small moleskin and a regular sized moleskin. The larger figure drawings and/or serious stuff will be done in a larger sketchbook. These pictures all date from around November 2005 up till now. If you would like, I could upload some of the more completed pictures from past sketchbooks, though, I'm not sure it'd be much use.

Also, if these pics are too big let me know (I'm running on 1600x1200), and if they're not completed enough to be in this forum, go head and move 'em to the doodles board or delete them.

(I cropped parts from the storyboard sketchbook to the larger ones in PS. Some cartoony characters. I don't like the gunner mechanic too much.)

(Same as the top picture, cept with random made up girl sketches.)

(Some more chicks. I think the one on the left looks like she should be in a Star Wars cantina.)

(DO YOU SEE NOW, ROGER SMITH? THE INSTANCE OF 40 YEARS AGO!?)

(Monster time. The 2nd one was done in markers)

(I think I read too much Fables. James Jean is the freaking man. This was a crappy sideeffect of trying to do a cover sketch or something. Need to finish this....)

(Ninjas! These were some quick character sketches for a Sequential project. The dude on the left is called Kensu-yata and the the dude on the right is Manewiss. Don't look at me, I didn't name them; it was based off a script.I scaled down Manewiss to what would be proportional to Kensu, since I had drawn them at very different sizes. I think they're more from the Kishimoto School of Design, than traditional nins. )

    yooo

these three sketchbooks look good. lots of imaginative drawing from your head.
do you want some comments?? ok
the first two sketches appear from life. the drapery one looks ok, only advice is to make sure you really capture the different planes of the fabric. each fold is an intersection of two or more planes, so when you draw them out, pay special attention to try to get the tone even and the contour lines smooth and all going in the same direction. It will clean up the drawing and really make it realistic.
In the glass on the bottom, the top ellipse is not so hot. pay special attention to getting that right and it would improve that sketch 200%.
Your random made up sketchs are good. I have a difficult time drawing well from my head and I commend you on them.

Also to answer your question. Imagine sizes are fine! nice thread! keep updates flowing!!

Hey man, good start on the sketchbook and welcome to CA. It's nice to see filled up pages. Your lines seem to be done pretty well, now show us some more values! Some studies and figure work could be pretty handy too. Keep it up man, we'd like to see more. Cheers!

Icon This is NOT a shameless bump. It's a shameful one.

Haha, yeah I forgot to mention that this is my first thread here at CA, but hey, thanks for the warm welcome!

incolorinred- you're in hoboken, nj?!?!?!?! DUDE, i'm from west new york! You might might not know where that is, but its around the North Bergen/Weehawken/Guttenberg areas if you know those places. Thanks for the tips about the folds, and the elipse? I wasn't really into that pic all that much. when I need to draw an elipse, I really bust ass about it. *glares at pastel final for Drawing 2* The heads up is appreciated.

Zord- Yeah, looks like I really don't do much valuework for fun anymore. The last pic for fun I did took it out of me (I'll upload it for kicks). And also, when I do a picture I'm debating wether or not I should do it in inkwash, charcoal or graphite. Though the solution would probably be to make copies, the paper's important when it comes to dealing certain mediums like that.

Course this post doesn't go without art.

(This one should've been in my last post. thumbnail of a lamp and some hand studies.)

(Oops. This one's a bit big. A short comic I did about something my friend said after watching the MGS4 trailer.)

(This comic is only slightly better drawn. It's from my Omake series, which are quickly drawn fully deformed comics usually about funny things that happen in my life. Like I said, these aren't for anything serious and there are tons of mistakes. Also, I've finished the whole mini arc, but I've yet to scan and edit the text in the other 6 pages.)

(Now uhh, this was probably the last time I really put some effort into making a complete picture. The values really killed me. And I realize the perspective is really off. This is the 3rd picture in a series I like to call Big Boss Battles.)

Well, I finally finished the wolf thing. Called it Nezchtlo. I think it fits. Also, I'm keeping with the whole Aztec/Mayan feel to these next guys. You can also see how I plan out things in this picture.
Also, I should probably mention that I inked in Nezzie with a speedball pen and nib (512 bowl tip) and Windsor Newton ink. I used the WN because for some reason it was giving me a darker line and
wasn't bleeding, but it was tough as shit to get it onto the paper. Ugh...

Talking I'm always gonna bump this topic with art. Always.

Sup dudes! Today I come with what is gonna be a 'finished' version of the girl in my first post, along with a short 4 panel comic I did for class and also a rough sketch of this... uhm EPIC EPIC picture I'm working one. Feedback on that last one would be AWESOME (if you can make anything out ).

You were losing me till I got to the perspective work. Leagues above some of your other work. Not that I'm bashing, just wasn't grabbing my attention so much. Anyway, in particular I really liked the figure on the bed. Also, the lab pic was inspiring.

Wow, well I'm glad at least one other person likes it! I posted her somewhere else to get feedback on the perspective and most of them didn't like the subject matter. Whatever. Here's the final sketch version of that pic.

I feel that it's my rather geeky duty to point out that there technically are no cutscenes in halflife 2, still some fun cartoons you've got there, your style is a bit anime-ey for my tastes but I'm really digging the Nezchtlo, lets see some more stuff in that vein.

i think i forgot about this!

Haha! yeah.... what can i say? other than keeping an art thread up to date has been on the last of my things to do since... last year! sorry to anyone that showed slight interest, haha!

Well, at least I can fulfill the promise of showing you the rest of the Goroht Mars concepts. Although... I'm fairly certain I can draw them better now, I've been focusing my attention on another series.

    Anyway, here's some stuff.

some different 'modes' trying to find a good color scheme. i'm obviously looking at getter robo for inspiration.

one half of the pilot duo

other half of the pilot duo

a reworking of sorts, and some model sketches of an actual getter robo

Not bad man. Nice to see someone doing manga stuff and actually getting the basics of drawing people behind it. Some nice designs too, btw. Try to steer away from your influences though. They'll drag you down in the long run.

    asphalt grazing

    hello again~

i've just finished doing a quick color job on a sketch, but i figured i might as well upload the rest of some pictures in a series i did over the summer.
characters from asphalt graze (it's taking... quite a different direction. at least... it HAS a direction now.)

From early july to the most recent.

    lucas and his gang

frankie (i didn't scan in his pages!)

jenny deathrain (based off of lady snowblood)

the random face in the middle left page is from mid august.

    Man Man Baldwin

    Jett

Jett in color! (i'd say he's come quite a way from the dude on the right. i forget when i did THAT guy.)
