Lineart problem

First of all this forum freakin rocks!! Now to my question how do you seperate your line art from the background? I have tried scanning in images drawn with pencil, ink, marker, etc. and I would like to know how everyone does this basic first step? I was going to try to draw over my lines but I don't know how to turn my lines blue like the lineart walkthrough suggests.

the more advanced artists may not agree with me on this but if the line art is dark enough put a layer over the drawing layer and set it to multiply.

post the drawing and we'll see what we can do.
