im new here, please crit my stuff. help plez

hey i just joined. this site is out of control with members and almost imposible to keep track of, or stay on top of everything.

these are some WIPs im doing for timmythedestroyer, who is writing a book. i want to improve as much as possible. please crit. devour and regurgitate.

You got some nice amor designs, but you do have a lot of anatomy issues. My best advice right now is to do some anatomy studies to get you proportion straightened out so your work will look more professional. Keep posting man.

Before start learnin anatomy, u might wanna start with GESTURE first (get the flow going and make the post looks more naturall). Then drawing with BLOCK (Circle=head, etc so u'll understand the dimension/3D) , it could help you a lot. Anatomy should be after that.

Well, you have some great advise already. Along with those I suggest you also do underlying drawings to help with your dimensions.

yoshi - im not sure what you mean by BLOCK. are you talking about shading?
i porpusly dont shade. (im bad but thats not why). i usually do more cell shading in ps. so i try to keep everything clean and lines only. (im not trying to make excuses, this is just the case)

yeah ill probably do some anatomy studies later and stuff. not much time on my hands as it turns out. rrg.

Your ideas are certainly there, but the first thing you need to do is to hone the skills that will allow you to communicate what you wanna communicate the best, so do what the other have said and get back to proper studies, they pay off big dividends in the lon run.

When they talk about blocks, they mean treating the objects as simplified sub-objects, such as a head as an egg shapped object, or the chest as a barrel.

Value work should be something you undertake whether you want o eventually use it or not, saying "its my style" is not good enough to warrant you cellshading or working a single style only, if you truly want to improve as much as possible, then take our advice, start using tonal control - and so what if you suck at it? We all sucked at it at one stage.

Anatomy studies should com before everything else, and we're not just talking the muscle mass either, anatomy study means understanding the skeletal system, understanding where muscles attach, how they work, how they look under lever movement, etc. Studies of the human body should be prime subject matter, and its also arguably the most difficult subject matter because of its complexity.

Then you have color theory, you have perspective, lineweight control, program knowledge, medium knowledge, etc.

As a beginner, you should not be worried about style, worrying about style when you dont hve the fundamentals destroys people artistically.

And you don't have time - thats fine if you don't want to be an illustrator of concept artist, but if you do, you make time because people who want to get into this industry live eat and shit this stuff 24/7, for those who are serious, this stuff comes before partying, before tv, before socialising, before everything else.

But if you don't want to get into illustrating professionally, then just discount everything we have said and do your own thing.

Nice folds in the clothes and design. but i'm sorry to repeat what everyone else has said but you need to improve on anatomy.

You could do what i do and keep flipping the canvas and redraw the whole picture in photoshop... it helps pick out some errors... =)

wow guys thanks alot. i apreciate all the crit. i guess ill go buy some books.
ill probably buy some gun and armor (old and new) books. i might buy some anatomy books, but my parents gave an anatomy book to my sister for christmas (WTF - she doesnt even do art. WTF I SAY) so im just gunna steal that for now.

unfortunately, i dont draw as much as i should. but here are some sketches i did. nothing big.
i really dislike the starwars guy cuz its bad, and i inked it. *hits self*
there are 2 about 3-4 min sketches for life drawings. there were 2 girls who did speeches in our lit class. and yes they are my firsts of my ....newer self.
yeah i should get more up, but i still dont have a scaner (i use school one)

sorry i coverd some stuff up...but its not great sketches and i dont really care, so u shouldnt (if u did).

Hmmm... you're starting off fairly well but as you have mentioned yourself there are some things you need too work on.

Everyone else has mentioned anatomy, which I think we all need to study more of. Specifically, you seem to have muscle placement mostly figured out, but you need to learn more about how they interact to move the body. Maybe studying from people or animals in motion will help.

I'd also like to see deeper values in your shading. While you may want to focus on cel-shading and line art, learning how to shade realistically will help you when you do more simplified things. The best comic artists are also great at drawing realistically.

ill take ure comments into consideration. i havent thought of deeper values and nobody has told me about that yet so thanks.

heres another piece i did in physics. i sketched it and inked it (in the only pen, which was red i had) i changed the color to black. sorry about the bg color, i used it when cleaning up some unneded lines in ps. i used no referance and see spots where i messed up on the wrincles. some specific anatomy help would be good. also face help. i seem to need help on that. thnx.
