Emily - hey roomie! You should most definitely post those oil sketches... even though you think they suck, they really don't! It was good to meet you - I miss you guys already!

Cats and master copies! I'm already in love with this sketchbook!
Heya Emily, Dave here, met you at the William Whitaker tour. Nice SB you got here. The life drawings are especially tight...you should post more stuff like that, maybe try applying some of the charcoal technique to your anime works.
Oh yeah, and I saw you parked in front of the long-pose tableaux so I know you've got something to show for that...share!

I think the guy's helmet looks funky.
So is this "belle dame" a school project or just a personal whim?
The pic with stragne helmet looks really good. Just try not to blend shadow and light side too much beacause it flattens the form.
Hey, I totally met you!
You need to post the paintings you did at Insomania, they were looking real nice.
Hi HP, I must agree that u should post your Insomania paintings. I really liked them and would be glad to give u tips/crits. And thanks for posting in my sketchbook...it was getting lonely in there

Just stopping by to say hi, was hoping the workshop stuff would be up. So no longer a slashluvr? darn, all that slashluving was good stuff. I lost 60$ for you in Vegas, what are friends for? Hope to see some updates soon, have a good break.

@escape2mars: no prob, hope everything goes well for you in florida ^^
@Blue Severin: you loser, only 60 bucks?!?!?! anyways i'm no longer a slashluvr cuz it was too hard to say when i introduce myself. and i'm posting, i'm posting! jeez.
@Mr Man: hehehe well, it was worth a try anyways wasn't it?
---------------------------
Ermmm so this is going to be a LONG POST. I've had time to gather my thoughtsunfortunately i spent my winter break fixing floors and moving furniture so i didn't do the post-workshop mad drawing craze
BTW i changed my name to hp cuz it was too hard to introduce. and davi says it's special cuz we aren't normally allowed two letter names. YAY! IM SPECIAL!
anyways here is my meager stuff from the workshop. i didn't really wander as much...in fact i basically sat put in the traditional section painting the entire time. and for those of you who are still questioning workshops, here is my testimonial. *takes a deep breath*
Being my second workshop, it definitely had that feeling of meeting old friends once again, even with people you'd never seen before or talked to online. Demos aside...Like zord said, only here will you find people who:
- are willing to wait all day for you at the airport
-are gonna celebrate your bday during the workshop just cuz someone else mentioned it
-are happy to walk uphill 4 billion blocks to find some goddamn seals
-are not gonna take pics cuz they know someone else will take 5000!
-are going to make EVERYTHING into a thunderdome topic, anywhere, all the time
-teach you to listen to bands with silly names like dragon force and show you how fun guitar hero actually is (although you may never admit to either)
-call you up to make sure you didn't die on the way home
-mention having a bday party at their house in a diff state after the workshop...and you actually go on a whim...and use the excuse to your parents that "yes meeting people on the internet twice in real life = best friends"
-are more likely to call you by your forum name than your real one cuz they can't damn well remember your real one
-are going to inspire you to draw, draw, draw
-teach you that downing a bottle of jim bean by yourself will make you draw, draw, draw
-realize that NO ONE has taken off their mb tshirts and ca workshop bracelets for DAYS and will STILL be wearing them when you see them next![]()
drawn with wil on the BART.
used to look better, but not really. it smeared a lot and my sketchbook fell in a puddlethis is what converted me to a mechanical pencil and fixative.
TD: uhh bum lord/lady?
blue severins:
really stupid, but those who participated will understand. i hope you like the part where a guy rapes frank wade in the butt. ^^ i won that round! hehe
mr. blondes:
ummm, td: man with bird shadow?
bangbang's:
um td: dead kitten armor? and some studies. atlas of human anatomy is a GOOD BOOK.
zord+wil's:
painting of hero and emily g (but doesn't look like either cuz i painted emily kind of from my head...)
another of hero:
painting after plane ridethey wouldn't let me hold it, and they put it through the luggage scanner and kept touching it. UGHHH

POST WORKSHOP:
even though the anatomy sucks, i'm proud cuz these didn't use any references...well...that's big for me. AND i drew motion!!! AND whole chars! i def got influenced by foster/hale/hussar.
for the battle td against frank wade. basically you pair off with someone, and each person draws a bg and themselves doing some cool move. then you switch and draw your char fighting them on their drawing. details are in the TD forum!
tried drawing it from the other angle. but i don't think it conveys much motion.

Too bad the photo of that Emily G painting didn't come out too great, looked way bosser in real life. Work on the way the major forms are related to each other on that TD, try the move in real life. Looks like it's a hadoken type move, which is sort of like swinging a bat. A tilted profile is a hard angle to draw, probably have to use ref, keep track of all the down planes especially the eye sockets.

ow...
haha your dead kitten and Bum queen are awsome. The flow of your lines on the color hadoken chick is pretty interesting, what where you using for that?
I dunno but im pretty sure a human cant twist like that chick with HP on her rear. Proportions and things look really good for no referance but i dont see a living person being able to do that.
yay looking great emily. glad you finaly posted your paintings they came out awsome.
oh yea doom crew for life
see ya next workshop..hopefully
This ones bootiful!
Who was emily g btw? Ive seen her around the boards but I forget what she looks like.
You know I dont think I did any sketch combos with anyone over there, I just traded sketches. Im gonna have to next time...Spent too much time chatting![]()
wow, em. You're really movin' on up... movin' on up. To the eats side. To a DEEE-luce apartment. in the skyyyyyyyyy.
Seriously you're getting good so fast. It's scaring me. I hung your picture above my computer
hehe.
Good luck with your work in the future!

hey hp, sorry I haven't stopped by recently... glad to hear you had another good workshop experience though. I plan to start saving money up for the next one just in case.. I really would like to go to one of em.
great work all around, you really are improving quickly. your figures look really nice (form and proportions are lookin good ) and those paintings are lookin great (especially the colors). I really like the way you did these ones: http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9494/2002vg3.jpg ; love the flow of the lines and such.
glad to see an update either way ms. hp, keep it up!![]()
those oils are nice.

Looks like you got a lot from this workshop! The quality of your stuff has gone up! Darn, wish I could've gone too!
@armando: thanks, i think it looks cooler in RL tooanyways yeah i took a ref photo for the TD, i'll try to fix it.
@sweetoblivion314: eh, they were that great. yeah a real person can't twist like that, but it still made me happy ^^
@joelhinxman: thanks!
@Mr Man: emily g's the blonde one, real prettyi think i drew her lips and that was about it, she took a break and i kind of made up the rest.
@Interceptor: LIAR! you're really good ugh, i can't believe i gave you that shitty printout.
@Onir: i haven't stopped by too much on ca to comment either so, i guess we're even
thanks to the rest!

SOO! I got a portfolio review by Blue sky! the guys who make ice age and stuff. It went really poorly >.<
um so i learned that hadoken is a word. haha i thought it was "haruken" from street fighter...but then i learned that it's "ryuken" hence ryu and ken...yeah....i'm real smart.
so my storyboarding class is AWESOME! we had to do quick "art tests," for ex: a black girl with long flowing hair and a frilly mid-length dress is in a cockpit that's a metallic mechanical bull. talk about freaking outit was really hard to do with pencil and my stuff all looked like shit. my life drawing class got canceled though which sucks
some REALLY bad 3d...just started my lighting class. all models are by todd fechter, i just light em. oh, and we're not allowed to really fiddle with any colors or textures or special things with lights yet...sooo yeah. ^^

just a fun thing for sketchgroup. i'm learning a lot by looking at the prince of persia concepts. uhhh she's supposed to be leaning on something, i know her body is all weird.

wow hp, great work! those 3d images look good if you ask me, though you might not think it. the lighting on them works well in my opinion, though the last one at night the light of the lamp looks a bit off. I haven't messed with lighting or too much 3d programs in general though so I really can't offer any help in that area.
the lady you've outlined and colored a bit is coming along reaaaally nice. I especially like the way you've painted her face. the last one has a nice pose as well, nice flow in her figure; however, I think her legs should be reacting a bit more to her leaning back like that (you might be waiting until you've got what she's leaning on in there though). the textured background gives it almost a cut out feel which is cool if you ask mekeep up the great work , ms. hp!
yo hp~! (hey, it's easier to type now!!! kekekeke)
good stuff! Hope you had your wacom issues dealt with. And great that you now how two workshops under your belt... a little envious here... heheh. But now i'm curious, what was in your folio that you showed to blue sky?
and thanks for your and onir's comments on the tech design thumbnail challenge! Was sat. night, came home tired, about to crash... read the forum, then got inspired to bang out another ten.
edit> it's been awhile since i touched 3D (and 3DSMax 3.1 at that), but for those environs. Since you mentioned they're untextured, they're not going to bounce light... so is it possible to put faint light sources at the bright areas? For example, the sun hitting the floor in the daylight pic. It's gonna cause bounced light, and illuminate the ceiling and walls a bit (which in turn would create more "light sources").

YAY for 3D! Bum Lord Lady wins in my book lol.
Damn, stuff's looking good. Your anatomy is way better, just from the little bit you have up. Love the tdome face. I had some crits worked out for the 3d, but I guess it is all stuff you have no control over. Sounds like your classes are fun, have a good semester.
