Some nice gesture drawings, and I already see improvement in some of your faces (the girl with her arms crossed, for example).

About your eye study : it looks like the iris is a bit too small.
The pupil can become wider or narrower depending on one's emotional state (or something like that), but the iris cannot, I think.

It is hard to see if you are using sufficient construction methodology... but it looks like you could stand to take a little more time building up the underlying structure of your figures and faces before making the leap to shading/rendering. What appears to be happening, since I do the same, is that you have a photo, and you are just trying to recreate its surface appearance and you are skipping trying to understand what makes it look the way it does. It is a hard habit to get into, though, but worth it.

good use of value to show the skin and the clothes. YOu should focus on improving your line qualities and pushing the values more. YOu have hiccups in your lines and they're quite dark and bold compare to the rest of the pic while your shading is soft and doesn't indicate the form. Pay attention to the shadow shapes, especially cast shadows since those give the most indication of the forms casting the shadows and the forms the shadows are casting on.
    hope this makes sense.

try to work on your lines too. Loose sketchy thin lines are better than thick lines made up of smaller lines. Lines are best used where there is a dark value, not as outlines.

If you want to improve your rendering skills, try to stick to basic forms first until you get that down before moving to full blown figures. A sphere, cube, pyramid is a good place to start. Once you get those down you will see that they reappear in modified forms one way or another on almost everything.Try to think 3d when you draw. Hope you get a scanner soon! keep postin!

hey Oki, good studies of hands.....

I would say when you draw figures, think of it as a mass, it has a volume. for example the limbs could be a shape of a cyllinder, and then after that you can refine it to look as a thigh with all the muscles and stuff....

the lighting study could help you think like that actually....

    but hey, you're improving....

hey up, the last studies of the human body are by far the most useful. You will speed up the learning process by sectioning the human body into cubes and cylinders, its really good keep it up!

Starting to get a handle on shading there. I notice your faces tend to lose their chins, tho.

    Good work.

just keep drawing. try not to let the absence of comments or crits frustrate u. just keep on drawing, and pushing forward.

frankly tho, im having a bit of trouble making out ur drawings.\

the facial feature studies are nice, like the eyes and mouth ones.

the figure studies are good, but try using construction lines.

also wen drawing from like or reference, try and think of the negative spaces. so rather that drawing the nose, if u think about the negative area around the nose, and how its shaped. ull find that wen u down ull have more of a likeness to the ref.

keep at it my friend. there are so many ppl in our ssg, that its hard to check everyone regularily.

you got your scanner brightness set too high when you scan. slide it down some and it won't be so washed out anymore. Drawing simple shapes to practice is the hardest thing to keep on doing but it's the most practical so keep at it.

drop dropping brightness to about 35-40%. contrast can stay about midway. that's how I scan all my stuff to get all the values.

Try to give your characters more volume. Use shadow and light and more values.
    Good luck

hey man, thanks for dropping by my book again, keep this up, i can see you've been doing more shapes, you should try and fill afew pages with them, in all different techniques and using different light sources and mixing them up and keep pushing those values

    cheers
