First off: welcome to CA! (lol funny cause I just registered today)
Anyway, i like your chairs the most, I would recommend some life drawing and stuff where you dont use a ruler (cant see much difficult in using a ruler hehe). This is a decent start and you just have to keep going, its all about practice but im sure you already know that!
I look forward to see more(how about you start with hands?
)

for startpage!
I took your advice Anjo and did some life drawings. Just some hands and some horns I bought at a sidewalk sale for a hat rack. I also found an old blending stump in my room, so i decided to try it out on the cup and ball.

Welcome! Try out a couple of round things with the 1 and 2 point perspectives. or a whole word. I'll get some examples drawn up and show you some basics. Okay I got a little thing to explain finding center and mid points which will be helpful for more complicated things. It is for 2 point perspective. Hopefully this is some help.

And here is another thing that may help.

Thanks for the tips ludwrathjd! I got two pages up today. The first is some quick sketches I did at a restaurant. The second is some more hand studies that I don't think came out very well.

Keep practicing all that you learn. Perspective is a fun place to start, but it can become a rut that doesn't offer much advancement if taken alone. (I was stuck to perspective drawings for the longest time.) So it's good that you've begun drawing a variety of things.
Check out http://saveloomis.org/ above all I'd recommend 'Figure Drawing for All It's Worth' It will get you started on the figure and it also includes a number of perspective diagrams that you'll be interested in.
Keep at it man, you're on your way.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
revender- Actually, I got a copy of "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" a few days ago at my library. I hadn't had the time recently to read it much, but I did a proportion study from the book today since you reminded me. hmmm...I think I made him too thin from the waist down. I'll do another tomorrow.
I definitely made his waist too small.

Thanks Zulle! Youv'e got an awesome sketchbook yourself!
I did another loomis study today. I think I got the proportions down a little better this time, and I inked this one too. I also did a quick sketch I was thinking about for a logo/signature. I've trying to come up with a good one for a while and this is the best idea I've gotten. Any Ideas?

More Loomis. I got a little tired of proportion, so I moved onto gestures. The top row is just trying to get a feel for it, and the two on the left of the second row are from the book. The rest are from reference except for the one in the bottom left.
I should probably get a scanner.

Looking good. I see you're on the right path to progressing. Study, make notes. Draw very often. Bring your sketchbook with you to public places, draw people you see, etc.. It will help you a shit load!
keep it up
you got some neat sketches and also gave me some ideas for pics
you doing some good things man. looks like you were studying vertical dimensions of the form. Also study the horizontal dimensions too, that is hip, head, leg, and torso width.. etc.
also, way to practice using vanishing points and various perspective.
keep it up, all this stuff will serve you well.

Sweet! Three replies! I'm moving up in the world![]()
Tigermilk- I probably should be doing more life drawings. I'll get around to it one day.
LoveHateWar- I gave someone an idea? Nice.
incolorinred- Thanks! I'll probably be doing these studis spanned out over a while. (mainly because I'm too much of a procrastinator to do them all at once.) After I finish Loomis I'll move on to the anantomy of individual body parts.
Ugh... These turned out terrible. I should probably be doing all of the views on the same page. I have got to stop being so lazy. I'll probably post more again tonight if I get around to it.

Did another. This one came out much better, but I still made his legs a little thick. I also should learn to use a brush pen better.

Went out and sketched some stuff. I did it in pen, because I thought it might help me make my lines more confident. I kept forgetting I was using a pen though and kept trying to shade like a pencil (I should learn how to crosshatch), so it came out a little wierd, but it actually helped a lttle. I'll probably do it again sometime.

Heya, checking up on ya. Nice vertical proportions on the last study. One thing to keep in mind when drawing from referance is to draw what you see not what it is. That means, dont draw from memory or what you think something is, draw the shapes, lines, and values that makeup whatever you are looking at. It may help you to start drawing that way by drawing simple shapes like cylinders, rectangles, cubes or whatever shape you may see in the object; combining them to make the form of that thing. Hopefully the sketch in the link helps you understand. I used eliptical spheres mostly for the hand 'cause the hand is mostly plump and round, its not detailed but it is enough to get across the form of a hand.

Good studies, keep on working hard and you'll see the progress![]()
SSG #10: The Tenacious Ten
Wow, it's only been ten days. Feels way longer.
Recursive_End- Thanks!
ludwrathjd- Thanks for the tips! That actually helps alot. After seeing that I decided to practice on some more hand studies made from simple shapes. #2 is just a cleaned up version of #1. And if #4 and 5 look wierd, it's because their someone elses hands. #5 is also wearing gloves. Eventually I'll probably do this to help with gestures.

Good hand studies, the bottom one on the last page turnd out really good. Maybe try going larger with these and putting in some of the anatomical details (tendons, muscle groups, etc.). Keep pounding on that basic figure construction too. Good job catching your own errors!

Kitsu- Thanks! I don't want to move too far into detail until I feel more comfortable with basic shapes. You have some fantastic stuff for 'The Peer Project' by the way!
Some stuff for the peer project. It's a great thread that I highly suggest you check out.

hey good effort, the last hand studies are nice and maybe you could bring some more perspective in.
salute
This is a good start, but as others have said life drawing and studies will really elp yu get better alot faster. Observational drawing quite a bit different from conceptual drawing tho. Like ludwrathjd said, draw what u see, not what u think u see. Doing exercises like blind contour drawing, seeing negative shapes, etc will really help train ur eye for life drawing. Betty edwards book is pretty good for learning those type of exercises. For conceptual drawing though, uve gt to understand construction and be able to break the object your drawing into simple geometric shapes. Anyway keep it up

You've got something here! Good to see you really practice what you should, doing hands and perspective and stuff like that. I sense acute improvement, I say! Keep doing those mannikin things and practice your proportions. Don't stop.

anymale- Thanks! I'm working on the perspective thing.
seets_- All of that is already on my to-do list. Maybe I can get some of it done this weekend, and if not that, I'll do some after mid-terms are over. By the way, I looked for that book, but couldn't find it. Whats the title?
Serpian- Acute improvement! I'm liking the sound of that!
Thanks for all the replies everybody!
I wish I had something better to show, but I guess thats what I get for eyeballing it. I should work on seeing my mistakes BEFORE I ink something in. By the way, am I making my images too big?
Also, no one has commented on the logo a few posts back. I'm completely new to this kind of stuff, so I could use some help. Should I clean it up and post it in another section for more comments?

I finally Did some blind gestures! Hooray! There are actually about two or three more pages of this, but this is the only one that would show up on my camera.
*Sorry for the horrible photo qaulity, I drew these pretty softly so my camera had a hard time picking it up.

I'm seriously going to try to draw more, because you guys are making me feel really lazy. I did some perspective/proportion stuff today. The last page is gesture studies.
Sorry if the picture are small, or sideways or something else, Photobucket is being skrewy (did I spell that right?) . Maybe I should move to imageshack, because photobucket's 512kb file size limit is starting to piss me off. I'll fix the pics tomorrow, and hopefully my future updates will be bigger.

Hmmm.... been a while since I've had any replies. Today I did some cake slices from some different angles to try and get better at perspective/size without using a ruler or checking distances. The second page is some more hand and foot studies, and I threw in a crappy and quick first SP because if I can't draw myself I probably won't be able to draw anyone else. I'll spend more time on the next one, because just about the only thing I got right on ths one is the hair. Expect some eye and mouth studies too because I have no idea what to do with those.
Once again, sorry if the images are screwed up in any way. I'll try to fix them as soon as possible.

Good work on the balance exercises, and the cake in perspective looks good too. Just keep working on structure, it will help you in everything you try to do later.
