    Updated 4-29

Figured I'd start a new book for the new year. I got a new Wacom for Christmas and have been playing with it all day. It came with this Painter Essentials so I did this pic in that program in about 1hr that I did from ref....

I got painter essentials with my Wacom as well, i ''played'' with it, heh. Anyway, I just looked through your old sketchbook, I really like your work. You do faces very well, and figures. I especialy like your painting as well. Like your latest post - good choice of colours and the front features make sense to the eye. Do you think you will leave it or go in more and put on more detail?

Wow I got some replies awesome! Thanks guys!

Tullie yeah that's my problem I don't spend to long on the pieces so I have nothing really finished..which is what i'm going to try to do and finally get a nice portfolio going. I think I'm getting better at color but I dunno to me my pics turn out to pastel looking.

I didn't have much time to do this or post about to go see a movie with a friend. It's from a pic a took of my cat..this one didn't turn out so well.

    here's the ref

    thanks bobby

I did this one for the COW fireworks spitter and this what I was going to put for the story or whatever...The frog creature climbs to the top of canopy and then when his sack(is that right?) fills he sprays the fireworks out of his back...yea borning I know. I used ref of a couple a frogs and then made one up and used some colors from one too... so it's from ref but totally made up.

The cat is the best painting you got, just a little clean up and a bit more rendering and it is a good piece. Just pay a little attention to it's face, it is ot completely true to the ref.
Looks like a lot of people got wacoms for christmas... =)

I really like natalie portman. It doesn't look like her but I don't blame ya I have difficulties with reproducing faces... argh! Like your animal paints, its original to paint animals... all I do is try to draw pretty women lol.

Howdy I haven't been drawing for awhile. I did this cowboy after looking at some of the concept art for Gun and also playing it, it's a great game. Took about 45 mins and I used ref on getting the hat shape and it's all done in Painter.

nah I just don't like to scan stuff in I draw with pencil a lot but it's mostly stuff that's the same..stuff from reference or anatomy studies. When I draw with pencil I do more imaginative stuff, but I never like them..the drawings themselves are good(I guess) but I just don't like how creature, etc turn out..maybe not creative enough. I don't know how I don't seem to have more of an imagination I got lots of books and images in my head, it's just when I'm in front of the paper or computer the images seem to go away.

You should definitely scan some of your paper stuff in, I think it would be interesting to see. Your colors are awesome by the way. I think periodically some parts of where you missed the structure show up in the paintings (like your cat's face) but overall things look pretty good. Maybe if you just practiced more with no ref your brain could get used to conglomerating what reference you remember with what your imagination wants to do. Keep it, looks great!
