I think you're suffering the same problems I've had...You color an object based on what your brain tells you it should look like...In other words, you're colouring from memory...Well, memory is tricky...It can change the facts...

Go outside and take a good look at a similar tree from about the same distance as your sketch...Observe...See it yet??? There is a wide variety of colour in one tree...From a distance, tree leaves look green...True...Up close, they adhere to the same principles of colour like everything else...The overall colour changes based on the colour of the surrounding objects...

Depending on the time of day, you may want to add some yellow to the fringes...If it were mid-October, they might be somewhat orange...

The initial sketch looks great...I love that minimalist style...If you're gonna add texture to the colour, I'd suggest adding more stuff in the background...A few fallen leaves here and there...A park bench...I'd go so far as to move the tree a little bit to either the left or right of the picture...In addition, I'd suggest a softer approach to colour...Based on my observation, it looks like you're trying to give it an oil paint look...Try a different approach...Try to give it a watercolour feel...

Kanji2000 : Thanks I need to work on my colour palette. Can't go outside and draw foliages since it's winter so that has to wait, maybe theres some good pics on the internet.

I did quickly add some yellowish and brownish and just a hint of blue just to see what happened and the result was much better even if I didn't think those colours or placement through.

I changes my approach somewhat...since I want an opaque painting where the lines are obsolete I simply removed them altogheter (in the foliage). If I had kept them your suggestion would be to prefer imo too.

Won't add anything to composition since it's a tree study practice to another painting I'm doing where I got stuck on the tree part.

Anyway heres the result to the left the added colours and thanks again Kanji2000 your help is much appreciated
