music fueling painting

I had to get myself psyched to paint some medieval weapons and armor type stuff last night, so after cafeful consideration I put on some Manowar. Dude man, I listened to four hours of Manowar. It was amazing. I never knew how much I liked them until I'm singing along with "holy war" while painting a dead knight, I even had to borrow some from my brother because I ran out. I'm totally pumped for more. Anyone else lean towards specific music for certain jobs? I just got about 5 cds worth of Ennio Morricone today, just waiting to get assigned some western scenes...

I have a big range of music... lots of videogame stuff. for darker, scarier themes, I listen to silent hill / 28 days later soundtracks.. I also of some legend of zelda OSTs, xenogears.. lots of imported tuned... relaxing stuff, like Emilianna Torrinni. Lots and lots of jazz.

I usually listen to my Rush albums when I work, though they haven't inspired me or anything. Right now, their Counterparts album is constantly running in my CD player.

yep,definately. everything works better with music (most of the time). therefore if i put on music which fits perfectly for a series of pics and then switch somewhere in the middle all the images after changing don't work as good. happened when i put on tool to keep at a slow,full-of-energy pace and then switched to dunno what,and all of a sudden i couldn't work properly anymore,so i changed back to tool-worked like a charm.
some music works for every genre,but most of the time,i have fixed genres for fixed types of artwork-like dark creepy pics,korn-fast,agressive pics,system of a down, and so on...

I love listening to ambient techno or electronica or whatever you want to call it when I draw. Right now I'm into Boards of Canada a lot.

I usually end up switching to something like Of Montreal a ways into the process because techno gets a little boring after like an hour. Haha.

Savage circus and Whithin temptation are great inspiration. Nightwish is great as well. I love a female vocale on some metal music. But hey, Manowar is a must for medieval.

They play a lot of good scores and symphonic arrangements.

Good stuff to sketch to (despite the occasional showtoon).

There is usualy a good, add free stream up on SHOUTcast.

A few years ago I made a Tom Waits tape fitting a certain mood of a project I was working on, lots of slow paced dreamy stuff. It was a great help at keeping my mind in the right place

yep, I'm into electronica and mellow trance (ATB). When I'm feeling more pumped and dancy, I'll put on some Daft Punk, Stardus, Oakenfold, Van Dyke. Been listening to Boards of canada and Four Tet a lot lately. I also love 80's rock (Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, etc...)

well, it doesnt make me want to kill animals, but i hate it all the same, i dont like rap/rnb/hip hop either, but whatever else goes (if i like it).

I've always wanted to grab the Half-Life 2 sound track.. if there is any, some of the music that played throughout the game was, for the lack of a better word.. Cool.

when people trash the country, I have to wonder if they mean everything or just the modern country. I'm into some of the old classics (Johnny Cash, Charlie Feathers, Hank Williams, and of course Elvis Presley) but I can't stand the Dolly Pardon/Billy Ray Cyrus type.

Same with hip hop, though I know little about it. I like some older and more "fun oriented" hip hop, hate the gangster rap, though I practically never listen to either

although i admit i sometimes like to listen to outcast,and a little bit 2pac.

fafnir, i second that, the hl2 soundtrack is great. you can rip it from the
game cd (my friend did it, i have no idea how to) def. worth it. lots of
creepy ambient sounds and cool music.

hmmm...i tend to listen more to true-power metal stuff when im going to draw medieval things....speaking of Bands like SavageCircus BlindGuardian DreamEvil Hammerfall etc. Sometimes also Death and BlackMetal bands like old DimmuBorgir or AmonAmarth CDs....when it comes to future Design stuff its usually Disturbed , trivium , BleedingThrough and other Bands that are coming from the NWOAHM....But when i do studies i prefere Silence...because i have to concentrate on the subject much more....
