My SB contains nudity, in case you no like...

I used to have a sketchbook on here a while ago under a diff name, but then I forgot all about it, and the password... and the email address. Anyway, that was when I was just starting so the drawings were kinda pants ^^.

I have managed to keep drawing for 6 months! I don't think I have kept anything up for that long.. except this degree thing Im doing, heh. The plan is to learn how to draw the figure and develope my 'drawing from memory' skills and develope my own style. I prefer semi-realism, that's the direction I want to head in. Drawing is really hard! I have considered giving up more than once -_-.

Here are some of the drawings I have done in the last week, some of the skull ones are from memory. I really like crit!!! I want to improve!!!!!! Im going to try and keep up this sb to show any improvement and for advice etc.

You have a very nice style.

The skulls seem nice to me, and I like that girl from prada pic. Keep drawing, it's the only way to improve, and keep posting here. Good luck with your future works!

Moving in the right direction. Just keep working hard! Studies from life are always beneficial. Keep that anatomy stuff up as well.

ZebzFree - thanks, I ought to put up some of my life-drawings.

Small update today, haven't done much, I need to focus more and spend more time on my drawings. Lately Ive been concentrating on the face, but Im going to be doing some figure drawings this week as well, so will post them.
I find the head/face one those really difficult areas to understand, will keep trying ^^.

tullie, good start on the SB so far. The skull studies are nice, especially the one that's turned; It shows depth and mass. Keep doing more of them, full body too. Keep it up!

Farn - - thanks, I haven't really tried colouring yet, I might have a go on OC at some point, I don't have anything else to colour with lol. Im not too good at it either ^^. That does remind me tho, I do need to start looking at perspective tho, thanks.

Did some figures today ^^, makes a nice change. I haven't done any for a while, so these aren't too great, I need to get back into drawing them again and looking for shapes and forms etc.

Your face studies are good and show a lot of promise. They show expression. Keep doing what you are doing and especially keep on the anatomy studies. Try to do some finished eyes. They look kind of spooky in a cool way unfinished, but I'd like to see how you draw the details.

Thanks for the encouragement Madplanet, I never noticed that I didn't finish eyes properly, now I look back at those pictures they look a little odd, lol. I don't like drawing pupils because I tend to do them the wrong size and too dark so they dominate the picture. But complete eyes would give a more life-like appearance

I use figure references from virtual pose.

hey

these are looking good, i'm liking your handle of the ball point pen, one thing you could look at is pushing you shadows more.... by that i mean getting a darker dark and more mid tones coming in....

also i realize these are studies, but it would be nice to see some of these figures in an environment.....or even just a horizon line of some kind.....or some shadows under them to ground that fugure

Padme face study from star wars book, I like doing side views ^^.

Pelvis/ribcage studies, this is the area im focusing on at the mo. Got annoyed with doing the face/skull -- I know Im going to have to do a million of those everyday just to improve.

More studies. (sorry for the bad quality XD)

Im only going to draw realism from now on, I don't care for 'developing my own style' at the mo. I just distracts me from studying properly. Also Iv been kinda lazy lately, so im going to start to push my drawings a little more. I did manage to keep up drawing for ~ 3 hours a day (more on weekends)a few weeks ago, Im going to start doing that again ^^.

hey, your doing well, just keep at it!!!

thats not a bad idea just focusing on your realism studies, be carefull not to get bored of it though, that might put you off....NOT GOOD!!!

also, just because your doing realism, doesn't mean you can't develop your "mark making style".....

take this with a grain of salt though, it sounds like you have a solid idea of what you want to achive and some good motivation.....( all you need!!!! )

keep it up!!!......practice, practice, practice.....

XD Hehe. I have problems with studying realism. I get bored of it too. I'm switching back and fore with my normal draws style so I won't get bored with the realism. Good luck for you!

Im going to post without an update ^^; My pictures are too light. I am borrowing a friends scanner and haven't learnt to use it. Im gonna learn to use it one day and make pictures darker, phew. ^^

Your figure studies are great, but the faces seem a bit standard, as in similar in the way the look. also try to get your lines going a bit more freely, the look sort of laboured. It defniately improves the pic if you can figure out free flowing lines.

hey, I just saw a post an another board about another study of queen amadilla's face...quite a coincidence. looking at that sketch you have, I can see that the eyes and nose are a bit off. she's a teen, so the eyes are a little lower than what you have. In your sketch, she has a 40ish year old look to her.

as to how to darken you pencil lines....welp, i made a tutorial on how to do just that in the Gimp. I used to have Photoshop. What program are you using?

Kronos -- thanks, Im trying to make drawing fun by reading about realistic artist (Di Vinci etc) but I dont have much time for that, haha. I find it all gets more interesting the more draw something. I just have to get passed the barrier of being scarred of drawing things - like faces ^^, heh. But yes - practice practice is the only way forward.

Good stuff here, just work on those lines. Try not to scratch your drawings with your pencil and dont make thick contour lines, it cofuses the viewer on where he should be looking.

hey tullie, your going great, i like the nose study and the facial construction on the first page. the nose and the lips are cool on the "close up" too (i can see a style starting to develope in this one!!! ), and thats great you did some darker shadow, but now its time to add some mid tones aswell!!!

ok..in Photoshop, you go to "Image", then to "Adjustments" , then to "Levels". Adjust away! (Do NOT select the adjust automatically thing--you will not get good results.)

My second attempt at the Padme sketch, I don't know if it was any better, but it was fun.

A closeup study of the painting 'the girl with the pearl earing'. I love Vermeers work, I bought a book on him today

. Also did a sketch of a random girl.

I used my new tablet and had a go at painting on PS, my first time, hence the messyness. (This picture is a referenced from a Goldfrapp album)

Hey Tullie- thanks for posting in my thread. I shall do my best to keep up with yours. You seem to have a good understanding of facial features. Especially the nose and lip area. I have a devil of a time with that. Keep it up. I do suggest, however, that you spend some more time on the eyes. In several of these pics the eyes are off marginally. It isn't anything amjor, but if you are shooting for flawless realism, you may want to spend some time working on that area. For example, in the girl w/ pearl earring, the eyes arent quite level. Overall, great work. You have potential.
