first world war concepts about battle of gallipoli (last image 25/05/2006)

Hi everyone. It's a project about Gallipoli War in first world war. Its gonna be the most comprehensive book about Gallipoli war. Here is the some works that I had illustrated for book. I hope you like.

18 March Battle at sea, It was the biggest navy of the world.Bu they couldn't pass the bosphorus.

It's a work about sabotage. English special forces used dynamites to destroy Turk's artillery guns.

He is the Turkish leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He was a big soldier and politician. We won the gallipoli war with his big intelligence.

I put this piece another thread but then I changed some part of it with your comments.

Thanks for posting, good to see about Gallipoli..
For all I think it would be better if you can detail them a bit further, more like texturing...
For the old (here the last) piece; i remember a comment about the map, saying it's too real, sharp for the rest of the piece, i think it is still..
For the next work it will be nice to see pieces about the humanity shown during the war; fighting enemy soldiers helping each other; as i remember..

I like the shots man. Good action and power. All I'd crit is define certain areas a tiny bit more. For example, the last pic's hand, with more definition, would have looked pretty awesome. Same for the hillside. A little more attention to lightsource would really bring the image to life. Keep it up though mate, you've defo got the eye for action. I'd like to see more.

there's some issues that I think working with some reference could help... for example, the clothing folds don't apear deliberate and real, and there's a lil bit of funky stuff going on with the facial structures on the interior shot. getting a friend to sit for you for a couple minutes to photograph would probably help. that being said, these all have great mood and the compositions look well thought-out. thanks for sharing!

Hey, Mert!
These look pretty good. In the "Night Shoot", the colors are way too saturated for the environment (not to mention the theme). Even when things bloom like that at night, the very low amount of reflected light just isn't going to translate that rich a color scheme to the eye, which makes the piece read false.

In "sniper target", I would think with that bright light there would be some low saturated reflected light from the far rock that would back light his trousers and perhaps a bit of the ground.

The sea pieces just seem too blurry (with the first too dark).

And while I really like the feel of the last one, the facial construction makes me doubtful for his chances of marraige. The nose is set just too low on the face (turn him toward you and draw these features where you have them and you'll see).

Overall, pretty darn cool.

Wow ! I think it's hard to do some illustration from History. You've probably check a lot of documentation and photo ref. Is that kind of stuff diffcult ? I mean depict some war scene ? Number 6 is my favorite, great stuff with the shadow of the bottle !

Alday.J : Yeah my friend. It's hard to do illustrations from history. But when you work with a expert historian (Ahmet Esenkaya/gallipoli war historian), circumstances changes. And if you born in the land that this war happened (I'm from çanakkale, near gallipoli(gelibolu) land of the troy war legendry) everything goes well. Think that, you sees foxholes, martyrooms, monuments, artilleries in your city everyday. Your imagination grows up day by day. For this reason It's not difficult than others for me. Thanks friend.

I really enjoy the mood/atmosphere of your first digital piece, so dark and moody... Also the watercolor pieces are looking pretty good too. On the second digital piece, I think a little more work could go a long way. If you pulled a few details out on the ships, it would look more convincing. Maybe tighten up some of the edges on the one on the right side of the composition too.... It does have a nice painterly feel to it though. Keep up the good work!

Wow, Mert! I'm surprised that you can lay down like that and paint that stuff in the vertical! I would have thought the water colors would run. What d'ya know...

On the Quintic (?), the 1st and 4th look way too similar to be in those positions. Perhaps 2nd and 4th... Actually, I would drop the 4th and put a completely new one in front with mainly land to echo the last.

Pretty darn neat!

i'm impressed by the amound of detail you put into these watercolor sheets above.
i dig all of these, but i sometimes wished there was more definition and focus in the digital ones. some are way too blurry.

Hey they all look great; I saw them for the first time today- my only crits; in the first picture, the mine doesnt quite look real; and some of the images are blurred, some definition would look great but otherwise these are awesome- keep up the great work!

Nice drawings and paintings!
but note that the signs on the shoulders of the highranks where removed during the war because of the sun ligth reflected on the signs and the high ranks were easy to spot and were shot very fast!

Thanks Kei-th. You are right about highranks. But it's a work that photo referenced used. It's possible that this photo taken in a trench which is far from the action.

Anzac Graveyard in Gallipoli during war. Reference used for soldier.

The post from March 2nd is looking really nice, I get a real sense of mood from those two paintings. The newer ones are nice too, however I would suggest not going straight to black to show the figures in a dark setting (like the radio guy). It may be dark, but things are rarely that black. Try using some warmer tones along with a value that is still dark but not all the way black. I think it would really make your pieces more cohesive and add to the feeling of them. The last one is already doing this, where it's not fully black and you get a sense of the informaiton that is being held in shadow... although since the soldier is backlit I would say to try pumping up the values in the sky- usually the sky is the brightest value in an image, and it would make the backlit idea stand out more. Nice output though, I think the direction these are going is great, and I'm a nerd for the subject matter too

ps- the lensflare filter is kind of obvious on this piece, it might be worth trying to accomplish what you want without it, as anyone who's played with photoshop will recognize it instantly.
