Annoying problem on PainterIX...Help

OK, here's the problem, example -

I begin a new painting in Painter. I start with my background layer and begin painting in my background colors (such as a sky color for instance).
Then I create a new layer and begin to draw on top of the background layer.

Here's where the problem starts -When I begin to lightly shade certain areas I get a weird result with the mixing of the background color and the top layer. It's almost looks like swirly oil/water mix effect.

Here's an example -

(The green dot on the left was was drawn on the same layer as the background and looks fine...However the green dot on the right was created on the layer above the background. Do you notice the swirly oily effect Im getting on the dot on the right?)


Does anyone know how to get rid of that effect??

BTW, the background colors were created using "oil pastels" and the illustration on the top layers were also created using "oil pastels". I can't figure out why there would by a conflict between the two layers.

In Painter 8, I got rid of the problem by "ticking" the [pick up underlying color] option (near the top of the layer palette). Don't ask why that work though.

Both work fine for me. Did you try restoring the variant maybe it got buggy.
