    Welcome To My Mind

    Hello Everybody.
This is my first "New Thread" here at CA.org. I have submitted a couple things here and there, but nothing really notable. So i am hoping this will be my introduction to the ConceptArt community. Im looking forward to getting feedback and hopefully making some friends in the process.

Before i lay my stuff out on the table
    A Little About Me
My name is Jonny (thats right no "h") and i am seventeen and a senior at my local highschool. I go to a open figure drawing session every tuesday for two hours, and i take "AP Art" at school. My most productive sketchbooking time is during math class, my most productive digital sketching time is between dinner and sleep (1am and sometimes later if im more inspired).

    My Goal
with this sketchbook is to get as much feedback as possible, and obviously grow as a result of that. This past year i have found myself more and more inspired to create and to expand my ability as much as possible.

Any comments and critiques will be highly appreciated and taken to heart. There are so many things i want to learn and i have so much free time to devote to learning those. All i need to someone to hold my hand and help me along.

    Recent Sketches.

    Today at School

The little round black things are spose to be spider abdomens. Done in math class. Inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins song: Glass and the Ghost Children

Speedpaintover after school snack. The hand and the arm are pretty wacky but oh well.

Trying out writing backwards like davinci. A very interesting idea to me.

Really nice stuff man! Good call with the life drawing, take it when you can get it.

What program are you using for Digital Painting?

I'd love to see some of these pics finished, you have some great starts to some full paintings. I've noticed on some of your sketching you grey out the backgroudn with pencil before drawings to do the eraser highlight thing. It looks sort of splotchy though, you might try getting powder graphite at your local art store and applying it evenly with a cloth, it's faster and yields smooth results. That's my only crit. I look forward to seeing some more of your work.

    Red face

wow, you work so hard (thats good)- so many pieces for just a month

You got awesome pen drawing skills (concerning your age I am starting to be really jealous - Im quiting art now

I just love how you handle forms and shading via inkpen - real inspiration for me. Im curious what kind of pen are you using?? I´d like to try it myself

Your paintings aren´t so fancy but handling paint is hard to anybody. I think the biggest problem are light sources a lot of your paintings has an "overcast day" feel so state stronger light it will definitely improve quality...

Im a noob so I cant crit and give a piece of advice too much. Keep on workin in this manner and big things happen

PS: thx for visit in my sketchbook, that piece from Oct25th was painted with reference (too bad I still suck without refer

    Cheers!

    Today's Shnizz

    Hello again.

Watched part of Disney's Alice in Wonderland while listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Not sure if i believe in the connection. But the imagery was inspiring nonetheless.

Nice stuff dude. Your paintings have a really loose and vibrant feel to them, especailly the ones at the top of the page (favorites being the 5th and 7th)

Jonny, very cool stuff you got going on. Definitely wasn't at your level when I was 17. You've already got a one up on me! I'm loving the line work, especially with the inks. The sketch you got while watching Alice in Wonderland is great, especially the lighting of the character. One last thing, we share the same name. Except I got the "h". Cheers man!

Damn I hate these kids who can draw like they've drawn forever. Makes me feel like using my sketchbook as toilet paper. Good stuff going on here. My fav would have to be the november 9th post. That coloured one with the woman who's eaten too much grapes.

Damn, your only 17? Sounds like a Stray Cats song. Never mind. I just don't know if I even have any crits for you right now, I'm just really freakin' impressed by what you've done and with variation in subject matter and styles. Man, you are on the right track if there ever was one, just keep being productive and take in as much as you can, it will all help.

I never heard of the Pink Floyd/Alice connection, but I have heard of the Floyd/Wizard Of Oz one.

    Cool

Excellent work! Great landscape. Now I've got to do one of those. Great figure drawing. My only crit would to clearly find the the shadow shapes and define them. A teacher once told me that "No shadow is an island." "The world of light and darkness will never collide. It is either in light, or in darkness."

This is very inspiring, when I hit up my figure drawing class tonight I'll try extra hard!

    Huge Update of Massivosity

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

argmisfit- Radical as in different? or radical as in "Totally rad dude!" Thanks for lookin!

    oven g love- thanks, cheers

spacemanchris- Using painter 9 for digital painting. Looooove. Yeah i really have a problem with starting and not finishing my pieces. I shall try now, i know its important. As for the grey backrounds, that i have been doing. Ive been using a really soft graphite stick, then smearing it with a chamois, but ill try out the graphite dust, ive never used it before. Thanks for the crits

Evil_Sloth- This sloth is evil. Ya i really need to finish, yarg.

Libor- i think i talked to you about the pen, but i cant remember. Im really workin on painting and such now, since color has given me such problems in the past. What you say about the light sources is pretty interesting. Ive never seen it like that and perhaps i need to look more into the intensity of my shading, thanks for the advice.

That fat kid- Thanks for the encouragement, the fact that i inspire you inspires me! Im gunna head over to your sketchbook. Thanks for stoppin in :-D.

    mull77
    - thanks! come again

seth1- yeah it seems alot of proportions seem to be off. but i think the more i learn the more ill be able to identify em, cuz right now i cant put my finger on em.

Zord- JO(H)NNYS rule. And there aint no doubt about it.Thanks for visiting. Im gunna check your sketchbook out too.

Placeboast- "The woman who's eaten too much grapes." oh no ive failed. haha. thanks for checkin me out.

madplanet- it took me soooo long to research and understand what you meant by "Stray Cats song". But i got it now, haha. Thanks for the support, catch ya around.

    ammoburger
    - you rool.

Big Ole' Update, everything ive done since my last post.

Ill start with my junk from my new and favorite sketch book. Pages in order they appear.

Been using acrylic on paper alot recently. Its quite fun to learn using traditional media. A lot lot harder than painter 9.

Recently ran across my sketchbook from my summer trip to colorado. No electricity, phone, or indoor plumbing. Really sparked my imagination, so i started designing my own mmorpg.

Its kinda fun to look at theses drawings since ive sat down and really thought about the location and the meaning of each of these in the world i imagined. The dark splotches for these are all ballpoint pen ink blown out of the pen and smeared with a paper towel. It makes for some really cool abstract value. Love it.

Heres something i drew in sophmore year in math. (2 years ago) love it.

i have a bunch of other drawing i did as an underclassman, but keeping load time in mind ill exclude those from this update.

And these are studies ive been doing just for fun to play with colors.

    yuck

i would ignore any possibility of papercuts if it meant i could procreate with this here sketchbook.

im lovin the recent paintings, your colors are on key. Also really diggin the inks, real tight linework, even with your real loose style.

i want to see more of them pencil works, those are my favorite.

    much love broseph
