*all nude* original weapons concepts (lol) idea, advice, and crit me!

Okay, I need to concept some original weapons for my senior project. Here are my basic super crude sketches that I have so far.

I want to know if these ideas are worth pursuing, or else I don't want to take the time to clean them up.

Also, any ideas for weapons that you'd like to see, or problems you can think of, please say something. I don't care how far out the idea, it just might help me!

Also, if the sketches are too crude to even make out any future potential, let me know that too so I can spiff em up some. What can I say...I like working dirty early!

By the way, for those of you who have read my other posts, I solved that ugly watermark problem.

Well, in fact I never draw some weapon design, so it will be difficult for me to crit. My question is: when people do that kind of stuff, how it looks ? Like some technical design, rough, something else ? So, try to be closer to that kind of render. Yes, I know: it's a WIP thread.
Ho, you draw the whole weapon in the first one. Do it for the others, and then, put some details and close-up. The others are fine, but I thinks they will be more effective if we can see them entirely.
    But it's just my opinion.
    Cheers, Bad Brownie !

I haven't seen much weapon designs, could be cool though :]

I like the design on your first one, though I'd say it looks like it would break because it has a "weak spot". The place where it goes into being a somewhat circular blade, you even made a circle there, I'd say it's way to thin, as if it would break after hitting something

Anyways, keep it up. Even though it's WIP/sketches I'd say you should try to finalize them a little bit more.

Have you no shame? Naked axes, my god! How dare you shame these boards with the axes baring it all- It's- its.... Beautiful!

I like the first one, but the bottom 2 look like if used, they would break when they strike. The first one looks great though!

Alday. J: I've never seen a technical weapon design either, so I'm just treating it like I would any other concept I do. Maybe I should go hunting around and see if there is a formal way to do it.

MorteM: Thanks for pointing out that weak spot, I will attend to it! You see, I'm not trusted with sharp or otherwise pointed objects, so my knowledge of their function is somewhat limited.

Mono: Thanks so much, I will surely be spending some time there soaking up some inspiration!

Pixeldragon: lol, I know, I do it for the shock value. About the bottom 2, is it the narrow neck that is making them look breakable? I want to make sure I fix the problem. Glad you like the first one, I had fun designing it, looking at various spikey things and such.

    I'll post updated versions soon.

the first one is pretty interesting, however the bottom three seem a tad generic.
Try expanding off your first axe, it looks like it has a weight to it and could be a brutal weapon. If you go with that look for the others they would be more original and interesting to look at.

Mortem has the best avatar ever... EVER.

The first one's complicated design makes it more interesting, but not very functional if it's meant for two hands. I have to agree that the bottom three look like some things I've seen several hundred times. I would really like to see that first one completly rendered. I'd also like to see the person who holds these, if you get my meaning.

lol, yes I get your meaning...I'm in the process of figuring out how exactly to supply this overwhelming demand. = )

    I like Mortem's avatar too.

The first one is actually a little dagger, not an axe, it's just meant to look like an axe b/c I am contrary like that. It is meant to be used with one hand, so I hope that clears things up.

Yea the bottom ones ARE boring, I agree with that...I am torn between wanting to make them more interesting and wanting to cover my ass (a variety of stuff is good for portfolios...). I am kind of a wild design lover at heart, so it's tough for me to figure out how I want to go about more practical/classic type designs. I kinda wanna just have fun with it, so I will probably set about a re-design. = P

Perhaps someday I will fully render that top one, but my plans for it in the short term are just a concept sketch. That's all I seem to be doing these days. It could be a cool paint, though, I will have to consider it.

    I'll have updates soonish!

Okay, here's what I've been working with so far...I"ve been trying lots of different ways to do it. Mostly for practice, and I like having more than one rendition. I never really touch cross hatching, so I thought it might be fun to muck around with. Doesn't really look good though. Just wanted to share my process.

So yea...lots of blah. I'm just not feelin' it yet.

Nice ! What's the next step ? Adding some colors, show us the scale (I mean, the size) or made some pic with guy holding those weapons. It will be funny.
Cheers Bad Brownie, and thank you for the nice word in my WIP thread !

this might be an odd reply, but all the weapons you drew are of the type that looks -extra- good when wielded as a pair

The pickaxe weapon is my favorite though, tribal-ish-shaped axes and swords are a bit overused (q.v. The new World of Warcraft weaponry from Zul'Gurub)

" *all nude* original weapons concepts". Theres nothing like "Bare" steel weapons to get the blood flowing Bad B. Looks like you have a pretty good "handle" on what your wanting to do. I think you should take the ideas and run with them to the fullest. The concepts are looking very good

Trying drawing silhouettes of people holding the weapons and see what effect that has. You'll get an idea of scale and purpose and it'll get you thinking about what kind of combat it could be used in. The small axe does look like it could be used in pairs but for close range throat-slashing for instance. These weapons aren't nude, btw, they're wearing LEATHER!

lol you guys crack me up.

Sorry I haven't replied or updated the past few days (if you really care, hehe). This weekend I took the bus (SO LONG!!) to go visit my boyfriend where we played City of Villains (just came out!) and watched Star Trek all weekend. I am, in fact, that much of a geek.

So, I will get back to these babies this week I hope, I also may want to switch gears and work on the cover for my comic (which is also going in my senior project). Thanks everyone for their comments and advice...keep it up if you have more! I know I should draw people holding these...

What size is this supposed to be? Given the overall size and shape of the handle, it looks like something fairly small, hence of limited cutting power. The beard seems too curved for hooking. I tried to figure out how I could use it, but I think I'll just put it with the Hibben fantasy knives

    It's not bad-looking, though.

yes, it is small, about the size of a dagger. The fancy ornamental stuff is just for looks, and serve no particlar purpose other than that. It is meant for slicing throats (close range) and moderate hacking of surrounding foliage.

I'll do a sketch of someone holding it the way I see it intended if that will help. = )

I'm not a weapons expert, so advice like that is good. Basically, I focus on making stuff pretty and interesting to look at, and then I rely on people who know somethin' 'bout weapons to tell me about function and practicality. = )

Now, if you wanna talk brownies...hehe

Liking all the designs, although I'm personally a stickler for practicality... the holes in the axe would make it very likely to get stuck in someones body. Even bayonets would sometimes be one-use-only, because you'd stab someone and then the chest cavity would suck inwards and trap the blade completely. Extracting an axe from someones ribcage when it's full of little indentations such as those would be HELL.
