Self portrait in oils

[conundrum]

hi, i've been working on an oil self portrait for school recently and thought i'd post it here seeing as there seems to be a lot of traditional artists around. I've mainly completed the face and i'm about to start on the hair.

The posture looks odd (the shoulders appear disproportionate) because in the beginning i was attempting a 3/4 shot but have since abandoned it for a more straightforward front view.

Unfortunately, the digital camera didn't transfer the painting very well (particularly the deeper shadows) and it took some tweaking it in photoshop to get a more truthful representation. Despite the bad photo i was hoping to get some critiques and comments, thanks.

Well your right that the head looks off centre, because of the shoulders...definately even that out....also his shirt doesn't really look like it has any thickness too it...around the collar it just seems to be a different colour skin, not a shirt...it actually almost seems like his skin is overlapping on the shirt....overall though it's comming along nicely...

i completed it a couple of weeks after that stage but never managed to get another picture. so heres the final product, definately my best oil painting to date.
