I've got 3 gigs going and still have my sanity and happiness strangley enough. Partly because I'll be able to afford the next workshop! Woo hoo!

I'll be able to buy my own computer stuff so I can post stuff online. I've been a sketchin' fool. I'm half way through a fat sketchbook, drawn on both sides of the page, in ink! They still are kinda sketchy though as opposed to smooth lines. The upside is now I can draw without pencil guidelines comfortably.

I've been doing this all by myself (I miss the group). There's allegedly a Northern Cali sketchgroup but they don't know how to call a brotha. Keep me posted on all the stuff y'all are doin and who knows I may fly in sometime next summer to visit n' sketch.

Hey, man - stop apologizing. We know you've got responsibilities that often interrupt the greater flow of your day...

You can apologize when you burst an ink-filled pen on someone's book or accidentally headbutt a Le 'Bou patron...Otherwise, you'll arrive when you arrive and that's good enough for us...

Anymore apologies, and Tammy will show you why they call her Lady Hammerhand of the 29 Death Blossoms...And that's some bad news...

Hey everyone, I finally got my computer working again. Yay, internet withdrawl is not a happy thing. I really enjoyed meeting all of you and I had a great time at the gardens. Next time, maybe we can plan a crit/mindless random banter session so we can corrupt each other more easily. Happy times.

Grack--- Josh called me and informed me of more 'small-world' news... funny that you two were highschool buddies! rather ridiculous, if you ask me! =D

All--- "Tammy coming?" Perhaps... perhaps not. I think I'd like to drop in at least for a bit... miss you all and miss the mini's. However, I'm still battling MAJOR sleep deprivation, mild vertigo, exhaustion from too tight of a schedule, and settling-in-syndrome (i don't quite know what that is yet... but yeh...)... so... don't know how long it'll be for. Plus... I need to call and try to go meet up with my landlords to make sure I know what's goin' on... and to give 'em a big hefty beefy check (OOOUCH!)

Yeah Fae, I saw him later on that night and I happened to mention the CATL group and....you know the rest. Does he have an account here? I forgot to ask him. You keep your eyes on him, he's an ornery critter.

It would appear that since Special-K has made the decision to forgo the use of "his words" in favor of visual communication, it falls on us poor interpreters of his vast and sordid imagination to provide "meaning" to what has been depicted above:

    1) This is a congratulations to Tammy for arriving home from Kentucky safely and for successfully finding and moving into new digs. It also says that it's best to avoid bad fashion and National Spelling Bee Championships where unexpected appearances by Uncle "Touchy-Feely" might create what family therapists refer to as: a scene.

    2) This is nothing more than a representation of Triple-H's disappointment that he was unable to attend last night's mini-meet. I've often heard him speak of the private pain that he feels surface from summers away from the crew, however, I don't think I've ever seen his emotional wounds so accurately captured.

I once heard him say, "When a cat can burst - yes, burst - as in rich with fluid and hate - a hairball on your face, then you know you've got the weight of worlds beyond worlds on your shoulders."

Double Poster! Why, why do you guys make me the much-reviled double poster?

I'll tell you why, because floating around doing very important research on very important subjects to ensure that very important events do not come to pass without their importance being clearly stated and restated, I occasionally come across information that would go for one hot ticket on the street...

That's right, on the street - as in some seedy back alley or perhaps a quick hand-off, passing a confidant on the sidewalk somewhere between Lindbergh Station and the Varsity Jr. However you want to paint the picture in your mind is entirely up to you, but the important thing is:

I have uncovered extremely rare footage of Guggen-two-turntables-and-a-microphone block rocking, indie-hipster-frontman-like...

He's the one in the pink shirt and the white shoes ([edit: the shoes were] previously seen in Special-K's "Congratulations Tammy/Spelling Bee Fashion Victim" image)...

Gold stars to Guggs for cat-like agility and his clever use of jazz hands...

+AD: Bringing you your morning dose o' sunshine...

It's been said that Guggen-can-dance-some-mad-maneuvers can appear anywhere on the planet, any time he chooses. I've discovered his appearance his Australia, you know it's Australia because of the floating water balloons.

And yes, our friend Joel got quite the sun burn. He just wasn't ready.

No Bodies for me. I'll be catching up on lost sleep from this week.

Gugg: sunblock man, sunblock. That opaque zinc oxide lifeguards wear on their noses should do the trick.

    Yes, I'm still at work.

And UPS sucks. My new laptop has been "misdirected at the hub", and has had its delivery "rescheduled" for tomorrow.

    Piss.

Special K: It would seem that you've touched off a Guggencollagejihad...Although, I must say that this first toss of the gauntlet was an excellent example of summertime fun...

Guggs: Knowing your PS expertise, I expect something worthy of igniting our thread in the unholy fire that is Special K's wrath...Of course, unlike 'Nam, there are rules here and I would highly recommend that we leave gonads and grandmothers out of this...

Wes-master-fex and the White Lines: Sorry to hear about your rig, man. There's only one thing we can do to thwart the plot of these albino shape-shifting lizard BITCHES! Let H-cubed go absolutely sickhouse on Dell...I mean hobo knives and busted teeth sickhouse...You know he's up for it...

Fingerless: Sorry, man. As indicated previously, I'll be otherwise engaged on Sunday (read: driving up to Helen to see my 'rents). The rest of the weekend will be most likely devoted to trying to finish off this painting to turn in for the North Georgia CArTeL postcard/flyer...

The rest of you proper rogues: Friday has finally knocked on our collective doors...I do hope you all have plans this weekend - good plans - plans that involve you waking up somewhere near Morocco, wearing a "Xenu Hearts Me" t-shirt, and stinking of rich drinks and cheap cigarettes...

Speaking of all of that: we should pub crawl next. My linework is decidely cleaner when my hand is steadied not by my will alone, but by the guidance of certain colorful drinks...For you underaged folks, I'll be more than happy to join you in one Shirley Temple for every Black Pearl I imbibe...

    Cheers and Fears!

(h)3: I can already see the police report, man:

Yes, that's correct. There were no defensive wounds of any kind. He was most certainly surprised by the assailant. And judging from his injuries, his attacker knew how to put someone down and put him down fast...

(For all you random readers out there: this is purely a fantasy. Special K would never harm any employees or representatives of major electronics corporations - unless they said something about his mother or drew first blood...)

So, I stumbled across THIS ARTICLE at lunch today...

Let me call out a particular quote that struck me:

It's not art. It was a prop. - Moe Brooker

Here, we see a clash of ideologies. The gatekeepers who are in place to tell the "unimagined" people of the world what is and isn't art, have allowed the thickening film of egos to obscure their vision. The old "what is art" debate sparks anew. I don't believe that sculptor Thomas Schomberg believes his work is merely a prop to be stored away in some warehouse or auctioned off at Balboacon 2006.

Now, that Mr. Brooker has had his opportunity to offer his opinion - as a member of the Philadelphia Art Commission, that's his job - I believe it's only fair that we are all given the opportunity to look upon his work and see what he feels is a better representation of contemporary art:

    Moe Brooker Gallery Contributions...

    newsbrief from the pasture:

I have a problem with the way that brooks's photoshop background (the checkered pattern, get it? hehehe) is showing through in all of his work. Use some OPAYCITY, will clear that one right up. inspired by jazz eh???

    /me does guggenjazzhandsmaneuver™

Oh, ok. Rocky. Ha ha ha ha... it's funny that they want to put that outside the philadelphia museum of art--> that museum is stellar ... and there are some AMAZINGly ethereal and moving works of LARGE scale sculpture on those grounds... see the picture below... what would this broken-hearted collective quip about the triumphant rocky statue? Seems like this prop should go into a planet hollywood or something like that. Melt that dim-witted detritus down and preserve baby shoes--> save the world from another piece of bad art.

If you ever get to see this museum, be sure to run up the steps while singing eye of the tiger. wear a hoodie, take photos, let it all hang out. and no...i don't mean in that way.

and also... IF ANYONE IS DOWN i'm going to be going to see props and models from the old timey animation TV show gumby at the Center for Puppetry Arts tonight. There are going to be some rare movies shown in addition to an interview with someone related to their production. ETA for me ~~8p or thereabouts @ the CPA on spring street? Since the email / post thing is slow and work is fast probably best to just give me a call if you are down. Hell-->it's worth a shot...you all know i love rolling with the HERD. there's some party afterwards too if anyone is fair game. PM if you don't have my number but i know most of you do

CALL FOR WORKS: catl promotional card-->

    (MOOOBUMPED teh THREAD!)

    hey guys...
    WE NEED YOUR ARTWORK!
Mentioned this at the last catl mini on tuesday night, but steiner and i are putting together a postcard and would like to use some CATL members' artwork to make it look extra, super duper attractive. At the next catl mini, if you could please bring us some nice, higher res full color files for us to use on the front of the card it would be greatly appreciated. digital would be ideal but it isn't necessary. even some stuff drawn in blue-line would be nice to use. IF you can't make it on tuesday, then you can PM me with a link or request my email address...

has been a hectic week of work, so i haven't gotten the site together yet. but... soon.

and next CATL MINI--> TUESDAY??? can't wait! haven't been really able to draw much this week save obsessive bedtime doodling...

All: I have returned to find myself lumped in with a group of "freakwads." I can scratch that off Analog-D's List of Lifelong Pursuits and Dreams...431) Join a group of Freakwads and be publicly decried as a member. And that bastard is done...

Fingerless: Goldstar for the Errol Flynn idiom...For those of you that missed out: "In like Flynn" refers to how easily movie star Errol Flynn could get women into bed with him (circa mid-1940s)... So, taking this into account: Guggen-like-Flynn would refer to how easily movie star Erroly Flynn could get women to believe he wore a wooly knit cap to his weekly sketchgroup meetings...

    Guggen-my-Cheetos:
H-cubed the First was one-man-bandtastic...This latest incarnation is very Iggy Pop (avec guitar)...Cheese Guns: that's a gem...

TripleH: I have to say, man - you took the early lead with the preemptive Guggs with Red Face...With this last "one-two" punch from Guggenmeister, I'm getting worried that you may be stumbling back to your corner...Remember, KIDNEY SHOTS! KIDNEY SHOTS! Now, go get 'im!

Seven lies, multiplied by seven, multiplied by seven again. Seven angels with seven trumpets - send them home on the morning train. Well who's that shouting? John the Revelator! All he ever gives us is pain. Well who's that shouting? John the Revelator! He should bow his head in shame.

Well, news abounds from the CATaLyst Ministry of Information and Special Investigations: Tomorrow we have a meeting and this is just another pleasant reminder that if you have arty artworks (preferably things in color and bursting with your own particular flair), please bring them along for the CATL CArTeL flyer...

If you forget, no worries. I'll have my email address on hand to send me the digi-files directly or you can just tell me where they're hosted and I'll yank those little buggers down...

I am planning on having this all squared away by our next meeting, so if you don't have anything over to me by Friday, you'll just have to wait for CATL Flyer REDUX (the French edition of which will be known as: CATL Vs. the End of the World)...

Hope everyone had a solid time rawking the blawk this weekend and that you're all ready for tomorrow night's sketch-a-thon...Sounds like we've all been pretty busy with our various activities, so I expect Le 'Bou to be filled with the sounds of furious pencil drawing and the occasional cry of an eraser burn...

Actually, Make steiner's preceding statement "if you forget, do worry. Worry like John the relevator is coming down the elevator to get you."

I talked to fozzybar and sounds like he's going to delete our poll up top. nice guy that foz. but strange.

In-like-Flynn: never new where that came from, let alone that it was related to my favorite Capt. Blood actor.

I'll pull teeth to get there tomorrow night, with the new laptop in tow. With everyone bringing digital stuff for the flyer, it's seeming ordained that I do so.

Im working on my piece as we speak...well, i was a few minutes ago, then i ate and drank a beer, now Im watching tv.....well, gotta keep the stylus hot, back to work.

For anyone who is interested, which is only one person, but Im gonna say it anyways, cuz I roll randomly like that, I will let you in on a secret. If you listen to "Stolen Bike" from the soundtrack to Pee Wee's Big Adventure, you will notice that the violin piece is lifted from an currently unidentified song on the Captain Blood soundtrack......so go search for it.

Wesifex: Flynn was the dog's bollocks back in the day...I'm sure he wore his fancy pants and thrown-open shirt when he went to bed at night...I'm also certain he had a plaque over his bed that read: No swashing or buckling of the cackle fruit!

NoFs: It's simple. Whoever returns the bike is obviously the person who stole it. So they don't deserve any reward! Excellent, yet random use of a PWBA reference on this Monday evening...I seem to have a moment at my disposal to do a little searching...

Lightbulb Results In! Analoguggenmaneuver Vs. Digitalwescolorintheboxwithglovedfingerlesshand

in a fight to the finish!

Analog and I on the analog side ROCKED "teh" casbah and proved victorious i would contend! you should've seen the undead face A-Doll was rocking... I could nary even glance over there, much to my chagrin! and the comely faces of all those little creatures--> gorgeous work. straightup pencil on paper, old-school like, and keeping it oh so...tangible. While there's NO CTRL + Z to save us from our mistakes, we DON'T need it. We were almost down for the count when that cheese smell wafted through, but sputtering and spitting blood and graphite bits onto the page AmbientDollop regained his footing to pose for the victorious Rocky statue.

Though wes's new dell-digs are spiffy let noone contest and trevor--> though he's getting used to the digital game he'll bust up your pelvis with a deft move of his stylus and a querry about photoshop shortcuts. Wes was rocking some arachnid scary but harmless creature, but still. his piece was what they call "virtual." Just ones and zeros man... just ones and zeros.

HA HA kidding it wasn't a contest. but there WAS dichotomy. i had a great creative blast playing with strictly brushed ink over a pencil sketch... will be posting soon for you all to look at and to jeer and leer at.

    in more serious newz:
Bodies: the exhibit this sunday. looks like trevor and i are going to head down there...anyone else that is down should drop a line here and i'll call you with last minute details. i know ethax mentioned wanting to go again; looks like this may be CATL's last visit there until BODIES: 2099 THE VIVISECTED CATL MOTHER-HIVE arrives at the CIVIC CENTER: TEH 2099.

    taht is all.
