Been sick for a couple of weeks and busy for to more. There's no time to draw. I HATE MY SCANNER. I've still got this red stage going on but after trying to get a decent scan of the red tone I've decided never to post these here again.

Armando Thanks for the really helpful advice. That drawing is just shit and I don't know why I even posted it.
Thanks man. This chicken needs years of plugging.
Art_addict I will do that once I get rid of this lazy ass that's hanging on me. Thanks for visiting. Hope to see you again.
Pennington The weather is actually starting to look much better. Almost time to go out and stare at people. I second what art addict said too.
Max1975 It's not that I'm working smarter but that woman in the ref picture wore that kind of scarf or whatever it's called in england. Thank you for the kind words on those drawings.
Flaskpost Yeah. I bet I would get a permission from my doctor to not have to draw whole figures ever. Makes me sneeze my brains out violently.
Malavon Despana Long time no see my friend. I will do some more finished work in the near future (like in ten years). I will be seen in your thread soon.

Those are all looking really good. They are a bit soft at times, but that could just be the media. Good work, good studies!

Thank you guys for not forgetting about me.

It's sure has been a while since my last post here. Haven't really have the time to draw so much and it's summer time and every excuse I can think of for being lazy.

    Warm up

    Fast "gesture" sketches

I hate the fact that my drawings without ref. always turns out so cartoony. PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME CRUCIAL POINTERS!!!

Hey, how you doing? I see that you are still working at it. I was looking through at the new posts. I wanted to say that I have the same outcome with sketching without a ref. My faces and bodies turn out kinda cartoonish as well. I've been trying to work more with values lately instead of line to determine the shape and features. It might help you out to establish more life like characters. So far it's been giving me a great challenge. Keep at it!

Darkchild I'm alive and still kicking. Thanks for the good advice. I bet nearly all "artist" have the same problem in the beginning. I will just have to draw my ass off from refs and maybe in a while things will start looking better.

    Some more shit

Your faces and forms have improved a lot with your practices, keep it up! Maybe try some more angular studies focusing on the planes of the faces and parts of the body.

iolarnula Thanks a lot. Basicly all my drawing are some kind of planar studies. I just can't help it that it doesn't show for the shit of an artist I am.
Ryan DeMita Thanks for popping by. Hope to see you here in the future aswell. Super polished will be coming once I start to understand the forms I'm drawing. This might take ten years. Hope you'll still be following my thread then.

I will not be posting these bald headed guys in the future.

Sabe2003 Thanks for popping by. That's a crappy brandy allright. i can't believe you recognized it. Your a genious.

I had my first life drawing class today. There was a momentary frustration and a thought of quitting drawing. But I guess that's quite normal. The drawings were done in under 30 min. Drew on a4 on a shitty paper with a shitty pencil but at the end of the day was quite pleased with what I came up with and that my fellow fellows is quite odd to me. After the class went to a pub, drank a few beers and couldn't draw shit. Back to reality. The drawings were done in under 30 min.

I know exactly what you mean about quitting during lifedrawing, I go through the same thing every time I go. You mentioned wanting to get more realism into your heads, part of it has to do with proportion. A technique I've been playing with is to first draw a square then relate the head to the square. It's basically a proporion trick, since the front view is 2X3 and the profile is a square, it sort of automaticaly fixes the proportions. The proportions of your heads are good, but the changes from the norm need to be so subtle to look real. Another thing is I don't think that the technique you use effects whether a head will look real or not, it's possible to draw all nin line and make it look real. The calling card of reality it variety, and I think you're headed in the right direction with these new drawings, this is a good example http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a47...k-page-139.jpg. Yeah that one wasn't drawn from your mind, but I'm just talking about the variety in the line and value. That last life drawing is looking mighty good, nice rythm and some use of value. I would say to push the value more, but I don't know, there are more important things to think about while life drawing.

Armando Thanks a lot for the good advise. The problem with the shading on those life drawings was that there was a really shitty lighting in the class. Couldn't see any muscle definition nor shadows. I asked if they could put more dramatic light next time. Hope you come to give me good pointers in the future aswell.

    Todays shit.

Hey post #220 and #221 are exceptional. If you're going to expand a bit more on it try adding some darker tones to complement the great sketches. And yes I think you are doing great I wouldn't think there would be a way for anyone to get worse if everyone was as diligent as you with your studies!

Darkchild Thanks man. I should decide whether to draw for the scanner or for just my own viewing pleasure. For the scanner I really need to draw with darker values.

Didn't have anything new to post so I thought it would be fun to post something I drew when I was sixteen.

Trying to study shading. This would actually look much better if the scanner would'n lose all the brightest greys.

    Scanners are tricky that way.

I love the stuff you did when you were i6...guess it was all downhill from there

The recent figures are looking very good, especially the one from sept. 28 . . . HEY! Did you finally find a life drawing class in that godforsaken wasteland you live in? Awesome!

Good figure studies here. I feel you on the scanner issue. I have tried playing with the settings as much as possible with mine as well and still get crappy results.
