Thanks for the comments and observations, dudes, i'm sorry i didn'r reply before but i had nothing new to show, and i feel bad when i reply without posting new stuff.

I wasn't going to enter this week's COW mainly because i have been unispired and feeling kind of shitty but that doesn't mean i wasn't trying. so i came up with this:

    WIPS

    the final entry:

and some botched creatures that didn't make it:

Bravo! Bravo! I dig them all!
I'm curious - have you inverted your colors at all? Just create an adjustment layer set to inverse so as not to screw with your pixels. Swamp says darker to me, thus the thought.

your drawing is excellent, but i'm not sure about colour choices on some pieces. i like your trying with different combinations of colours.
i think you should go for rendering excellency from now on.

ok, i think i got what you said. the thing is that the creature is floating, not underwater and if i invert the stuff it's going to look weird , so using the adjustment layers i darkened a bit the background.

i think i am going to play around a bit with the layer stuff. I never used them before, thanks.
Now i know what they are there for.
here's what i did after looking at your example:

thanks. I have been drawing for a while but this board has opened my eyes to a lot of things. like value. i keep forgetting about that. and color theory. I kind of suck at that too.

Dude, I love your concepts. I'd like to see more. Do you work traditionally, or are you a strictly-digital dude? Are you a student or professional? wow, questions, questions.

the last one is pencil + watercolor + photoshop
i tried this because i can't get the textures i want in photoshop. And i suck at painter.
I'm not a professional illustrator. I am a graphic designer, i make websites so right now i am just trying to learn as much as i can about this. I have a long list of things i need to work on before i can start thinking about getting paid for this.

i love the progress / changes made to that last creature. nice colours as well.

i also often just scan a sketch with pen or marker so that i have value and texture when i start working in photoshop. no need for painter if you like what your getting (that goes the other way around as well of course).

its also just nice to work with different pencils and brushes and markers. i think people tend to draw or design different things when using different tools.

definitely an improvement, bro. when i think of swamps, i think lush, green (aka verdent) so i'd also think of a creature blending into that enviro thus my suggestions.
layers are your friends, especially adjustment layers - no pixel harmed.
    cheers!

that creature looks really amazing, excllent sense of the environment its in, the light on his face looks a little too over exposed and bright to be underwater tho, whatever still looks awesome

effin cool stuff in the sketchbook. on the "heavily masked" underwater creature, the creature itself looks greaat and not over done but the little bubbles comin out of its aft end look too rough to go with the rest of the piece.

i like this sketchbook! ill be back

oh, great chow by the way. good form and he looks nicely fed

Just wanted to drop by after seeing your COW stuff and say nice work! I dig your creature designs quite a bit and you always seem to have interesting colors. I'd love to see you branch out and try a variety of color palettes though! It's great to see the pencil sketches and scrapped ideas too - always fun to get a glimpse at someone's thought process

Your new CHOW entry is coming along nicely.
