The lines thing? or the shadows?
I'll try my best, and see what I can do
I'll post an example later.

aha ok. the line stuff.
i am trying to see if i can use stronger shadows in that last stuff i posted
I'm sorry i didn't reply to redhelert before. what i'm trying to do right now is paint everything in one layer and trying to get rid of the lines, it's hard to get rid of old habits.
ok i tried using stronger shadows in this one

Hey man, nice update to fins....I'm looking at the rib section receiving the shadows and think that you're getting there, but don't forget about the reflected light on the surfaces. Ever check out Bengal's work excellent lighting use? Or how about Prometheus? Prom's got some killer tuts on his site (white column, 1/3 down the screen): http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/index.htm. I think this may help a tad with what you're after....
Cheers!

alright, i'll check them out. meanwhile here are different stages of this thing:

So yeah, we're going to have to do a collaboration sooner or later.![]()
you say when
Ok scumgrinder, here's a quick paintover. I like how you paint better than me... so bare with me : P
You said you're painting everything on one layer. Basically what I did is paint on several layers, above the layer with your image. On every layer I lowered the opacity a lot, and I used the blender tool in painter set to "just add water" at 20% opacity more or less, on a final layer. When you do this you should have "pick underline color" checked.
I added some more midtones, darker the shadows a bit, and difuse the light a bit too. The light/shadow relationship is still a bit off though, some areas I feel should be darker, and there should be more cast shading I think.
Anyway, like I said, I like how you paint better, so take this with a large grain of salt, its just to show you can eliminate those lines with another layer using the "just add water" tool. Hope it helped for something!
Cheers.
EDIT: I'm noticing also now that I look at it, that it looks overall soft, some areas could use a harder brush treatment as well.

alright, i see a lot of values i didn't have there. So i should practice that
i also notice the loss of detail and a blending of colors.. was that a consequence of the blending or did you get rid of them on purpose? And like you mentioned, the overall effect is too soft, there must be a way of doing it without losing the strenght of the brushes. or maybe it needs to be built soft first and the apply the hard brushes on top.
I also don't use painter. I'll have to figure something out in photoshop
Thanks for taking the time to explain that for me.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, using the soft brushes first and then the harder ones, or using hard brushes with low opacity so the colors sort of blend. The loss of detail was half intentional, half accidental : S
The blending of colors was pretty much on purpose... I used yellows and yellow-greens for the shadows but noticed there was a lot of reds, so I just blended it together : S You can shift the hues in photoshop though.
If you're not using painter... I don't know what could be a replacement to the just add water tool... maybe smudge? or painting with low opacity and letting things kinda blend together. I dunno.
Anways, keep that stuff comming.

Likin' the new drawing....great feel and view. It'd be slick to push his chin back more or perhaps just take the angle of the jaw and make it more obtuse and not a fairly obvious right angle.

No more uploading evertything to the same account

really good stuff man...
i really like your creatures
In some of your digital stuff have a focus point on your paintings and don't have your stuff all rendered of an even quality, if you know what I mean. Other than that this is some pretty neat stuff!
You're great! post more!
