Thanks for your comments. I had some problems with my site's server, but the image should remain visible again now.

I noticed the same effect with the water when scrolling. Psychedelic!

    Cheers,

Hehheh, that's pretty sweet. Can't say I'm really getting the "message" though, I can think of a few idioms/etc but I'm not sure.

    Thanks guys!

The idea behind the illo is that this man has invested in a ship that turns out to be close to a wreck, so his future plans fall into the water. It's fairly straightforward. The magazine article is about ship investments that turn out bad.

I created it using 3ds Max and the V-Ray renderer for the subtle shadow colors, highlights and reflections. Used an orthographic view to get a parallel perspective in stead of the usual vanishing point perspective. I like that because it has an estranging effect and pleasantly forces me to approach the illustration composition in a graphic design fashion.

    Cheerio,

Awesome! I love the soft, realistic rendering mixed with stylistic and simplistic design. Great job!!

Interesting design, although I do notice that the wood has some odd edges in a few places (the double lines).
Everything also looks very plastic, some textures would probably have made for some interesting surfaces, but I can understand that most of the focus was put on the shapes and design.
