Talking YemYam - Misc 3d Dump

I've been lurking these forums for a while and am humbled by the amazing talent here. I am very interested in improving my 2d concept skills (I'm primarily a 3d modeler) so Mr. Cotie "forced" me to post some of my 3d so I wouldn't be so embarrassed to start posting my 2d (yes, it's that bad).

Here's some misc 3d that I did last year. Although these might not ever get visited again due to my new gig comments, questions, and crits are still welcome!

    Excellent.

These are really nice. I especially like the Chopper, and I was quite disturbed by the Vagina Head. Excellent work my friend.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the positive comments everyone! The real reason I am here is to start participating in the DSG's to get my 2d skills up to par so it helps to get some positive stuff on my 3d to help me make it through the 2d lashings I will get!

The last pic is a WIP that I am toying with in my very rare free time. I'm going to be booked solid till after E3 then I will be able to sneak some time to finish this guy and start participating on the boards with my 2d stuff.

If you want to check out more of my junk you can scope YemYam Central. The latest WIP is not on there so here are a couple more shots and wires too. The chickee still needs tons of anatomy work and her mech vehicle is only about 30% done so I still have a ways to go before I wrap it up. I'll dig up the awesome concept by Andez Gaston and post that tomorrow so you can see how I am translating it into 3d.

    Thanks again, enjoy!

    The Concepts

Yo, time to hijack my own thread. Here is the concept art for the last piece, it was done by one half of the twin concept drawing duo, the Gaston Bros. They are extremely talented and are currently attending the Art Institute of Dallas in the previs track.

The vehicle was done by Andez Gaston for an ongoing virtual film class at the school. The design went through a few different revisions so it's been pretty fun to model as I get to interpret quite a bit bringing it into 3d while still staying as faithfull as possible to his creative vision.

Azulblue, the current polycount is 110,860 in sub-d mode. Who knows how much with the msmooths applied. All of my stuff is pretty much modeled sub-d in Max 5.1.

All of the following concepts are by Gaston Andez. If you like it I'm sure they will be glad to post more of their work, it is all great stuff and they are improving rapidly each day.

    Yea

Andez is in the building ladies and gentlemen! How do you post? C'mon, it's the exact same software as the school! Only thing different is you have to host your own images. You can probably do it from the school server or if ya need space let me know and you can host em on mine.

    YemYamicus...

what's up baby? You check out my Port I thread, got a new image in there that I'm really proud of. Small class too, only five people in it, soon to be four (one's in without havingtaken the appropriate pre-reqs)

Anyways, glad you made it to the correct group of artists and not the poo eaters

    Hello!

Hey guys, yes, I'm alive but I've been doing tons of low poly stuff until the next gen pc title picks up again and that has kept me super busy. I finally got to take an evening off from work so I played around with charna for a bit last night. Refined her a bit and punked her out. Let me know what you think.

    Enjoy!

    very nice!

    So good.

I was wondering how she fit into that mech, then I saw the concept pieces with her strapped in, looks very...gratifying?

wow, keep up the good work, have you started posting your 2d work? Seems like you have access to some great artists, time to hang out and do the round table thing, they'll get you up to speed in no time.

Sup, Pete. You're still modeling the girl? I thought that you were doing that to piss adam off. I'm sure when you have enough time from the L.P. stuff it'll look awesome. Keep it coming Pete.

    Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the comments/crits.

Erik, here's some wires. Neox, yes I agree, my characters/human anatomy need work. I guess I just identify more with machines :p . That's one of the reasons I'm here to start drawing daily which will improve my anatomy which will translate into my 3d. Krail, yes, I'm about ready to jump into the fray ... I need to get a new scanner because I have a hard time drawing the intial sketch straight in with the wacom. I'm sure Mitch and the Gaston bros. will be glad (and brutal with their crits) once I finally get the nuts up to start posting. Lastly Dez ... yea, I took the night off to "play" with her a bit. Just goofing off really, trying to juggle a million things. But yea, the next batch of "free" time will be spent on the vehicle ... I've already got a file prepped for the flamethrower arm.

Thanks again for everything, see you guys soon!

Hey thanx, great to see these boots up close. They're really cool and lots of detail!

Is all this model one object? Or did you merge multiple objects?

    What is your process?

    modular

Thanks Eric. I always try to break my model up into as small as pieces as possible, it's easier to model and makes it look more realistic. If I have pieces that need to fit together snugly i'll start out modeling them as one chunk then break it into smaller pieces and detail it out. I use Max 5.1 and model everything in sub-d with epoly. For the mechanical stuff I use edge weights and creases a lot to get hard mech edges. There are more wires and stuff on my site if you want to scope them out. Hope this helps!

really hard for me to get it... look at this boot great work but the face and some reagions of the body aren't even close to what you've done with that boot, really strange for me, but there is no doubt that you'll get this better

jrr, thanks ... i really dig your stuff. i'm short on the drawing side and organic modeling ... working on my skills always. 3d is easy ... you just have to log the insane hours!

neox, like i said anatomy is a bit more difficult for me ... to where other stuff i nail pretty easily. the body and face still need a ton of tweaking and i will try to fix all of the problems.

aag, what up. yea, playin with her a bit. i will texture the whole shebang after i get the vehic done and get her "mounted" on it.

it's extremely slow going because i work at least 70 hrs a week on work stuff and only sneak in the personal stuff for a day or two every couple of weeks.

once i get my new scanner this weekend i'm going to spend the bulk of my "free" time drawing with the dsg's and trying to get my anatomy and drawing skills up to par.

    thanks again everyone!
