Help with Cintiqs

Hello folks. I'm hoping I'm in the right place to ask this question.

I would like to get my hands on a cintiq for painter of course, and a bit of photoshopping. I wondering if there are any of you out there who use the 17SX. I know the 21UX must be better but the price of that thing scares me to death. Anyone feel strongly against the 17SX? I've used a graphire for gosh knows how long.

I use a Cintiq 21ux at work, prior to that we had a 17sx at work.

Though the 21ux is supposed to be more sensitive with the stylus, I haven't noticed the difference.

The biggest advantage with the 21ux is the incredible screen size. I would recommend having a video card that supports dual monitors, and gettingt a cheap 17" monitor for all of your tools and pallettes. If you have the extra cash, I would also invest in the wacom tablet accessory for the Cintiq which will allow you to interface with both monitors with one stylus.

Having the entire 17"/21" screen available for work is indispensable.

My recommendation to you is get whichever Cintiq fits your budget, but once you go 21" you'll get spoiled and never want to go back.

sounds promising but I did a quick browse through wacom's site and couldn't find anything - got any more info or a product link? thx!

Is there much of a difference between the cintiq and tablet PCs in general? If not, are there any suggestions on a strong Tablet PC?

I get to borrow a tablet PC at work and I have played around with it in Photoshop and Flash. It's a compaq (a tc1000, i believe). Although it works okay for drawing, it is not geared towards that purpose like the Cintiq is.

I've never had my hands on a Cintiq, so I can't truly compare, but the tablet PC is okay for messin around, I'm just guessing it is not as intense as the cintiq. The stylus response is pretty good in photoshop but lags somewhat in Flash.

The screen is also way smaller.
