I never ever finish anything, so I never, ever have anything to post in the finished forum, so I figured I might as well start a sketchbook to pour my inky little heart out in to.

My mediocre street sketch of, erm, myself, in Portland, suddenly gigantic beside a bus stop, and yet somehow at the same time very squished, like the feet and the head. Alas. Drawn mostly in Pioneer Square, experimenting unsuccessfully with a couple of prismacolor markers I had sitting in my bag.


Life drawing mostly, mostly at the airport on my way back from Portland. I wish Huntsville had some open drawing classes, but I haven't found anything yet.

No models right now, so I draw from photographs. A big book I checked out of the library, The National Portraiture Gallery or something like that. Is fun.


More Alice stuff, the Duchess, the Queen of Hearts, the caterpillar (it's a mattress on a stack of milk crates and cinder blocks that I will eventually make more exaggerated and surrealy mushroom like), and a resketch of Alice that I'm going to develop further in place of the original Alice paint.


I came upon the great idea of turning the garden of living flowers in to a strip club, only to realize that the flowers are in through the looking glass, not wonderland. Alas. I may do it anyway.

Recent sketchery

Two pictures from a very strange and involved dream I had a couple of weeks ago. The stumpy girl's hands were burned off, as if she was made of wood, very Lavinia from Titus Andronicus. The guys are pencil, the girl was a little under an hour in OpenCanvas 1.

Sketches on the subway. I'm sure you can pick out which are out of my head, and which are me furitively staring at other passengers.










OC comic strip weirdness! The first was a little under and hour, and I have no idea how long the second one took because I was actually getting dressed up to go out as I was making it. Nearly live autobiographical comics, heh.

Batgirl meme! I know. They both look like like art school goth/punks. Maybe their alter egos both go to SVA, eh? Yes, that's the answer.



This was an experiment. I'm not a fan of the actress, but I see so many other people try to draw here and not quite capture her likeness. I wondered if there was something inherently difficult about drawing her (no, really, I swear, some people do not lend themselves well to being drawn). I think I did okay, except for the mouth.




Update on the previous WIP. I'm afraid I've stopped working on her for now, so much "must pay rent" work to do, alas.

Playing around with technique I don't normally use, carving the image out with higher opacity brushes than I usually use. I kind've like working like that.


Warren Ellis asked for female readers of his to submit headers for a column he's doing at Pulse, , he plans to put a new header up with each column and link back to the artist. This is mine, albeit, twice the size that it would appear if he should use it. Texture from the excellent and generous Rob G.


I am decidedly unprolific. I don't draw for myself enough. Just work, work, work, work, arrrrgghhh.

Life drawing, an hour. Her head/face/body were all drawn in one go, and when I went back to lay in shading and more detail, her head position had drastically changed, and I was a lazy bum and didn't fix it right.

Ah, I forgot about these from the last couple of weeks too.

Roughly almost there character sketches for a very silly Monster Girls In Space webcomic I want to do.


shamefully messing around with the infamous El Coro technique on a 2 minute sketch just for that purpose.


The first comic I've finished since I left school oh so many years ago (aside from those opencanvas scribblings farther up, this is comic proper, inked and everything), and it's only one page and ABOUT why I quite making comics. Oh the lameness, but it's a start.

Additionally, some figure drawing (an hour with an HB pencil), I didn't capture her face well at all, every time I looked at her face she met my eyes and the movement was so horribly distracting that after several failed attempts I just let it be. Arg:

I have been off, making comics! Which I will not post yet, because they're crap and I'm going to redo them with better inking. Instead, have a bit of fan art for Ross Campbell's The Abandoned, that was mostly as an excuse for me to experiment with Sucking Less at inking.



And something I did for a thread on CGTalk, self portrait as a member of Davey Jone's crew. I must have been freshly press ganged, I'm not terribly crusty yet.

I only used a little webcam shot for the face, so the rest of me may not be accurate, I can't actually see my own butt terribly well. You know how these things go.

Oh wow, I forgot all about this sketchbook until today. I fixed all the broken pictures and looked at them afresh and started twitching with horror. It's good though, I don't look back on my older stuff and twitch with horror nearly often enough. It's a good motivator.
