You probably want to make the eyes obscure (like just patches of black shadow) or simple (as in cartoony) to make the orc look less grim. I just think the viewer will associate an orc with a mime more if he appears less intimidating. Coz if you don't tell me he's a mime, I would've though he's a clockwork orange orc.

    Just my two cents.

You should have stuck closer to the original sketch. The anatomy and action of the pose were better.

Jeri you know I didn't even register Clockwork Orange before reading your comment. I think you may be right.

Elwell You are completely right on the anatomy and action being better in the firts. I'm going to see if I can fix this one, if not it's back to the lightbox.

There is an independent publisher of Role Playing Games that is going to release for sale a PDF book. All of the proceeds will go to charity. This is something the they specifically wanted and I'm donating the drawing. At the moment I'm strapped for cash so I thought that this was a way to help since I can't make it down to the gulf cost to volunteer my help.

If anyone else is interested here is the original posting. I'm not sure if this is a breech the forum rules, if so let me know and I'll delete it and point you in the direction of the original posting on RPGnet

Greetings artists and writers. Dog Soul Publishing is gathering contributions for a charity book to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. What began as an impulsive open call with little structure on ENWorld has blossomed into a nearly 100 page book operating under the theme of celebrating the mysticism, culture and legends of New Orleans.

"Anything to do with Voodoo, swamps, the French Quarter, Black Magic, etc would be highly cool. We lost a lovely bit of US history to Katrina, and it would be great to celebrate New Orleans' legends." (from the original open call)

At this point we've got a new monster 'Monstrous Crawdad', a printable tiled map of City Cemetery, a gambling spaceship the 'Marie Louveau', new spells and feats for d20 inspired by the plight of the slaves and voodoo, a new prestige class 'The Swamp Witch', and many more kick-ass items, including articles about the culture of New Orleans.

We could use more. Our goal is to make this book as appealing and profitable as possible. Please send your questions, ideas and contributions to: [email protected].

The deadline is the end of the month.

    Also, for artists:

If you've got interesting stuff lying about the house/hard drive/filing cabinet and don't have time to whip up something new for us please send your old stuff in, because I'm sure we can find a way to use it.

However, if you have a free moment in the next three weeks and can do a new illustration for us, here's a list of things we're going to need: (don't laugh, it's an odd list!)

    1. Werespider cannibals.

    2. Angry, grim looking elven shaman performing a ritual in a field .

    3. Magic user channeling energy from the 'powers that be'.

    4. Images of the swamp.

    5. An alligator gar (new monster - large fish).

    6. A dwarf and and an elf doing 'the dozens'.
    7. A half-orc bard singing a blues song, strumming a guitar, with a lucky charm hanging around his neck.

    8. A day on the streets of the 'The Marie Louveau', a huge part casino and cruise ship/part space city-station . Looks kind of like the French Quarter with an artificial hemisphere overhead and citizens walking the streets wearing futuristic clothing.

    9. A pirate captain with a peg leg, eye patch and hook.

    10. A nervous looking parrot.

    11. mardi-gras-esque revelers, but using fantasy archtypes

And, if someone creates an orcish mime for me, I'll let you have the free Dog Soul pdf of your choice!

All contributors get a free copy of the charity pdf and a gift pack from Dog Soul. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope to be hearing from some of you soon.

The crotch area of this thing, positioned as it is in the image space it just too weird to give this piece much credence...sorry.

Blessings on all, though, who take any and every effort to help those who have lost everything, and know not what the morrow brings...

    This is the conception Sketch

And this is the progress so far on it.

Progress. There are a few things that bother me of the figure one is the Crotch area like Madster pointed out. The other is the ribcage. Any comments are appreciated.

I think that the pelvis region may be my next area of the figure i will study.

Anyway you could put this guy down onto one knee?

I realized as I clicked on this for the update that I really, REALLY do hate mimes, and why I want to help one is a sign of the coming apocolypse...

But, it IS for a good cause. Imagine losing your link to CA because you lived in New Orleans, and you've lost EVERYTHING...this may help our fellow members, you know...

he lost some of the definition from the area around his crotch from your first sketches to the later....... mabey you just didnt feel like scribbleing your pencil around an orcs man junk, but it would help to give his legs a little more deffinition in that area.......
....and props on the cause man........ for real, keep it up....

Besides the whole crotch area, I think you need to work on the folds in the pants, so they look more believable.

    Progress.

I think this is the best I'm going to get the figure I've spent enough time on it. so I added some background elements to it. Tomorrow I'll go ahead and do a few more details on it and call it finished. I think the folds in the pants need another try. So I'll pose in jeans tomorrow and see what kind of folds i Get. Thanks all for the great comments so far. I've considered all of them and weighed the time that it would take me to rework this. Please do not feel that your comments are falling on deaf ears, I'll just keep them in mind for the next one.
