    Destroy Me

Hello, folks! I've finally gotten off my butt and gotten a tablet and a copy of Adobe. Im new to coloring, much less computer coloring, but I'm here to be dissected by the big dogs ... or the little dogs ... or anyone up to the task of checking my stuff out. Have at it, you wild animals

Alright, alright ... I think I'm done for the day. Gotta wash up and head to work and what not.

I hope a comment from the dog's food is ok.

I like the weight lifter best.

In the first, the extremely large head is taking away from the menace. In the second, the value shifts don't seem to be entirely light dependant. The third cracks me up and is very cartoony (so is hard to crit), but the t-p holder doesn't sit with the rest of the image (skewed). I really like the character in the fourth, but the negative space isn't doing much for it. The very last one isn't doing much for me. It seems like several bits, like his right arm, could be getting some lighting that would help the image pop.

So, like I said, the one from reference is the winner. It has a logical and believable value plan and has the most interesting media. I would recommend trying to tie more of what you learn from your reference work into your other work. Draw something from reference, then try to draw it again without the reference. After you do this a few times, you'll get a much better handle on how light works (and this means drawing lots of things, like your shoes, that half-full bottle of Jack, your neighbor in math, everything).

I like the stuff you've done here, though (except that orange one, but that's personal preference), and the wide variation of style is admirable.

I appreciate your comments. I've been trying to get back with my sketchpad, whipping up sketches of whatever's lying around. I also tried to do a portrait of my buddy on PS.

the one on the bottom of the first post im fond of. great use of negative space with the placement of the character. his dark featurs do well with the white of the background. the bright orange mouse-chick just made me laugh. i dont know why, but the subject of a femail mouse gasping with her hands over her mouth has just gotten to me, lol. you seem to have a good eye for color. i like the work youve done here and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks! Im really actually new to the color thing. I know its a bad excuse, but I've been holding out for photoshop. Now that Ive finally gotten my hands on a copy, Im on it just about every day trying to improve. I personally thought that the colors on Demolition Debbie (the mouse) were too hot, but I thought I would post anyway, because I liked the value. I've moved my posts to a Sketchbook thread (The Sketchbook of Mister Moreau). Now, Im going to go over and check out the work of the people responsible for tearing me apart
