Who did these? I've always seen this style in comic stores but never thought to ask - I think his/her style is fucking amazing.

And I know its Cliche now, but I remember being a kid like 13, jesus 10 years ago now and picking up the alien's book and seeing this design as well as falling in love with the film, so my eary days were admittedly very influenced by HR:

Also, the triptych the Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosche has always faccinated me - particularly the far right panel.

Some good ones in here, I actually was going to post The Lady of Shalott myself. That painting is incredible. Since that one's taken, this is another what comes to mind:

not a great image there, but if you've seen the painting you know it's boss.

    Here's some more...

Love "pop art" and these guys are just some of the masters of it. Here's just the tip of the iceberg with these guys:

    Todd Schorr

    Tim Biskup

    Jeff Soto

If you've never picked up an issue of Juxtapoz magazine...run to get one now. Some great art and really fresh ideas.

Awesome thread! Love the Rembrandt, Sargent, and Heinrich Kley, and Travis Charest works!!
    These often inspire me here:
    Museum Morpheus

But the one I absolutely love from the first time seeing them is Ernst Fuchs.

My primary inspirational artists since I was little..

Clive barker - His character design with the Hellraiser series. Not to mention his writing inspires my own creative writing.

Todd McFarlane - His character design with Spawn. I didn't care much for the story behind spawn though, but the artwork was inspirational.

The styles never found their way into my own style, but they are very reflective in my writing, and all of my art these days is for my writing.

This thread is pure genius !

I am so infatuated with the thought put into this compostion and how the entire pic is manipulated in a way best to manipulate the viewer.

Horrible photographs; damned french need to take good pictures of their massive art collection.

..overshadowed by too many of the *superstars* of painting of same time period. I picked up a skinny book of his when I was in Italy...I gotta show ya sometime
