The Journey

Hi. This is my first post on conceptart.org, and my first digital matte painting.



Initially created as a test, this image was created using a couple of photos of a broken stone wall, at a nearby castle, which measure no more than two foot high, for the two large foreground mountains. The little dude was rendered in Maya, and then retouched. The backdrop and all foliage was painted in Photoshop CS.

I think it shows a bit that those two chunks of rock aren't really that big. I like the background far more than the foreground. Weird pose too, and his right foot is not really on the ground, so it seems. Anyway, keep it up. Maybe give it a little further attention.

Hey,
It was created in one afternoon, so indeed, more care could have been applied. It was mostly a test so see what I could get away with, in terms of mixing image sources, and scale. Maybe I should have just painted the whole thing.

I think it might help the picture if you reduce the contrast on the rocks and lighten the shadow part ...big rocks would catch more ambient scattered light than small ones, I guess.

And I would have put some orcs on the rock above the character for fun
