pencil wip, Jan-2006

yaaaa so cute!! You may consider painting this one. He'd make someone a great little avatar. ; )
(also, I don't know if you care about the spelling much, but I think there is only one "g" in there).
Anyway, cool beans, I like it a lot. There is a lot you could do with an image like this, if you made it into a graphic it would be a neat little logo; "Flyin' Frog Fashions" or "Winged Frog Cafe" or "Freaky Frog Frat Flambe!" lol. Good job.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Absence and booze.

The make-perfect button must come from within.
Hiya Brownie,
Thanks for coming by. Yep my spelling really suxx....lol
Glad that you like the pencil wip.
To explain a little about the steps. The sketch was done with a felt marker. Then scanned. Sometimes I have problems centering artwork done in pencil so once its transfered to the computer I can center it then lighten the drawing so that its very light. I can then print and pencil it without anything running off of the page. I kinda got messy with the plants and grass. I wanted to get most of the focus on Mr. Frog. I've gotten a couple of new ideas on this since posting it so I may update it with them later.
I see that you have some new work out. Your art is always so cool.
see ya, Bruce
Here I am with some big paintings
Over the years I have found that I enjoy doing paintings that are pretty big in size. It allows me to add more detail with less effort though it does eat up the art supplies quicker. These are all in Acrylics and the one on the left is going to be reworked at a later date sometime.
Bruce
too many pictures for me to really give a detailed critique, and you said most are older. But my only suggestion really would be to study human anatomy a bit more (i'm still working on anatomy myself) but alot of your human characters look odd anatomically. as far as rendering goes i think your really good, and your animal work is by far your best stuff. My two cents hope it helped some, (might of been said allready dont' know)
Hey OurSin thanks for coming by and posting,
Your suggestion is noted and appreciated. Yes the human anatomy of the art I do needs some practice. It does look somewhat odd at times so I guess you could call it "odnatomy".Sorry bout that. Anyway I'm working on getting better. Hope I'm headed in the right direction.
As for as the painting on the left. I painted the tree in first. The girl was already drawn the size that I wanted for the board. She does look a little large for the tree. I just got lazy and didn't change it. Thats something I will do on the rework job. Unlike the other two
it isn't varnished. Then I will build a frame when I'm finished.
I'm wanting to put up another Tarzan picture this week. Like the Ape Girl painting it has issues as well. It isn't new either. Although I have many painting ideas I haven't painted for about 5 months. I'm just doing pencil work for now. When I do start to paint again I will remember all the advice I've gotten on the CA board and am hoping to use it to full advantage.
see ya, Bruce
Hey everybody heres another painting done a while back. It falls in the wip section because I feel that there is still quite a bit of work left to do on the upper parts on the tarzan figure. Both detail and corrections. This one was actualy the first jungle man that I'd done. The one on the previous page was the third one. First up is the pencil art that was drawn on a 8.5x11 page of copy paper.
Heres the painted work. Sorry for the bleached look on the right side. I can never get any picture I take that doesn't have some kind of washout in it.

Something I've been working on this week

Heres a painting of some jungle ruins I've been working on (off & on)
I don't know if I want to use Indiana Jones sitting at the top or Lara croft. Maybe even some other jungle explorer. Oh well.....

Hey CA gang,
heres a Planet of the Apes painting that I began working on before Hurricane Rita hit the south east Texas shoreline. Sorry for the camera wash-out, fluoresent lighting I guess. Anyway I had started on the female character who plays Charlton Hestons mate in the movie to balance out the right side but didn't like the way it was turning out. I blocked it in with gray and am starting over on that figure. So, heres the pic

Hello everyone,
I've been away a while but I'm back now and looking forward to getting into the art groove. I do have a problem. My photobucket account is giving me some trouble. I've got a couple of pictures I'd like to post, if anyone can suggest an alternitive image hosting site that I could try it would be very helpful.
Hope to be getting up some posted art soon for comments and crits.

Hello CA forum,
Putting up a painting that's been sitting around for a while. It's not quite finished and it needs to be varnished so that the colors will come back.
Inspired by Franks "Cat Girl " painting

Hi bruce, i see you r work and i think that you have a good paintig style but you have to improve your anatomy acquaintance !
Good work!
Hiya Jega74 thanks for stopping by and posting up. Yep I'm still trying to make Mr. Anatomy's acquaintance.Every bar I go to seems he's just left...haha. Just joking with you. I'm glad that you like the style of painting that I do. Just finished coming back from a trip the Frazetta museum in East Stroudsburg,PA. If you are a fan of this man's work and are able to go to his museum it's worth the trip. I didn't get to meet him but I did get to meet his wife and she is a very nice lady. I met some friends of mine in front of the museum before it opened and Mrs. Ellie came out and talked with us. She told us that she had been out of town a few weeks age and when she'd come back he had painted his best picture EVER!! That was all she would say and I was dying to go in the house and see it. Kinda I could let you see it but then I'd have to kill ya thing..lol
Anyway I'm posting up some close-ups of the above painting. The painting size is about 34x22 inches. Average size for me. All the work I do is in acrylics. I haven't made the acquaintance of Mr. oils either.But I want to. Well maybe I will later. Here's the pics;
thanks again for coming by, Bruce

Hello CA gang,
I decided to put up the pencil sketch to the " Lizard Woman " painting. I'm not sure if it scanned well. The original sketch may be somewhat darker.
See ya, Bruce

Also as an update I'm adding what I hope is a better pic of the D Dealer painting from the first page.

Hi CA gang. Gotta new pencil that I've been working on. Started last night and worked on it today some. Still got some "nip-tucking" to do but I wanted to put it up for comments and/or ideas. I had to piece it together because it's to big for my scanner. When I get the chance to make a better copy I'll put it up.
I call it "Rino Woman" and I love the images of strong women (and men). So here's the pick.

NEVER BE SINNER.
Hello CA gang, putting up a new image. I call it "Bring Out Your Dead" and it was a drawing I'd thought I'd do after watching the History Channel do a show about The Black Death plague in thirteenth century Europe. It was a little big for my scanner so I darkened it which gave it a blue tint. Just one of those things. Here it is, the death wagon.

Just adding a painting that was done a short time back. "Mountain Barbarian" acrylics.

Another painting that has a little time on it. Thought I'd try my hand on a character creation of another individual. That character is sort of a female mad scientist performing unspeakable experiments on both man and beast. This painting is about 4 or 5 years old and I've been kicking the idea of updating it around.
Bruce
Sorry about the wash-out look but that's about par for me.
Hey, neat. I like the way the croc and the skull maps the foreground space. And those hands coming out of the shadow are super creepy cool. You should make a whole painting of just those hands coming out the shadow and stirring the pot. You can put all sorts of viens and boniness in the hands. You should take a reference shot of your own hands first and use it to draw from.
Since you have a digicamera, do you take reference shots for your paintings?
I was wondering if you did what frazetta did and copy over Bridgman's anatomy books into your own notebooks? You can see Frazetta's copies in the "rare art" section of his site, I think. (haven't checked recently, though)
Best,
kev
Hiya Kev thanks for coming by and putting up a post
A painting with a close up of the hands stirring the pot sounds like a cool idea. Be fun to put all kinda of creepy crawling thing floating around in there. When I start back painting think I’ll give that a shot. Your BADLANDER book looks bad a$$ btw. A good friend of mine has a bookstore. Think I’ll mosey over and get it.
The digital camera takes pretty good photos of people and stuff but it’s not very good at capturing artwork. But I try. As for as references go, I only use the camera for foliage and things. I haven’t really used it to catch the actions of people. Guess I could, I just haven’t. If I do the HAND painting though I think it’s a good idea.
I have the Bridgman’s anatomy book and I’ve looked through it a few times but I haven’t taken the time to sit and study it like I should. My problem is TIME. I hope in the next month or two to get to a point where I can devote more time to being creative. It’s very soothing and therapeutic for me. Just ain’t there yet. Got some pencil ideas I’m eager to try and a couple of painting too but as of right now looks like the other irons in the fire need attention first.
Thanks for coming by , Bruce
