I feel like i've forgotten how to paint.. I have until friday to work this into a pretty vignette and my skills feel absolutely rusty at best. Any crit at all very welcome!

    Cheers,
    David x

I felt the sketch was exactly what I wanted but I'll ruin it if I can't learn and relearn pretty pronto.

I love it. Define the water surface and the rocks as they are key to the story, Clean up the edges on the girl and enhance her edge lighting to separate her from the tree. The rear leg needs to be separated into two value sections to give us some feel that she has a knee.

Really good so far! Keep it up, cant wait to see a new version with the more refined edges and I'd love to see how you nail the water! and flections in it...

I really enjoy the soft colors of this painting and your characterization of the little girl. Right now I'm not reading the water as water (it IS water, right?), so I think you could do some more work there with reflection and texture.

It may be a little too late to give advice if you needed this by Friday but for future reference I would suggest to work on the pose a little more. I can't quite read what she's supposed to be doing right now. Think of her silhouette, her outline. If you just looked at that would you be able to tell what's going on? Would it make sense? Right now I know that she's supposed to be cautiously stepping from one stone to another over a running river, but her silhouette tells me that she's doing some ballet thing. Especially since I can't really tell where her other arm went.

On a different note I think that the color palette is really nice and atmospheric. Best of luck finishing this!
