    Cool Hiya

Alright! Looks like we got another anatomy junkie!^_^Nice start. On the first post tho, I had to tilt my head! I like the anatomy studies a lot. Creepy faces...and the last head pic has a very interesting angle. You got good skills for someone who hasn't drawn since middle school. All I can say is keep drawing and I'll be back! ~~Sio

here is my first sculpt attempt ever. I tryed the human skull because i wanted to get a better understanding of it. It helps ALOT. I used Anadomy for the artist (ricter) for reference.

I like what you've got going here. I can tell through your sculpture and drawings that you have a good idea of objects in 3d space, but I think your linework is selling you short, as the kids say. A lot of your marks are very short, and your longer lines are very light and unconfident (is that even a word?). I've been working on the same thing in my work the past couple years. A few excersizes you can try that helped me:

Draw a series of dots on a piece of paper. They can be along a straight line or scattered all around. Start at the first dot you made, and attempt to draw one single, solid line from the first to the last dot, stopping at each dot. Between each dot, aleternate the line from 100% dark to very faint. So you'll end up with something like this:

This is not unlike the ancient chinese mind-game known "connect the dots".

I've found this really helped me develop good line control and helped make me a lot more comfortable with making what I wanted to make. As you can see, I'm not very good at it on the wacom, it's hard to do on a no-resistance surface... but on paper it's easier heh. Anyway, give it a shot, hopefully it'll help you. (I didn't come up with this excersize btw, it was taught to me by a grand master chinese shaman doctor by the name of Chunder)

Another good way to practice is to just draw a spiral on the paper. Try and keep each line equally distant from the previous layer. This helps develope basic control, and it's really fun because you can see your progress pretty quickly. Doesn't matter how big it is, doesn't even have to be a spiral. Just a simple set of rules that allow you to focus on making a very specific line without having to worry about anatomy or lighting or anything like that.

    Anyway, hope this all helps

That Fat Kid: Thanks for the encouragement! Yes sometimes i spend hourse looking at Weses sketchbook. It just blows my mind haha. Your making really good progress yourselff BTW.

Well while everyone else is out getting laid or drinking/smoking ( living ) on saturday night i decided to do some Lion anatomy! hurray for me.

Lately its becoming very hard to not get side tracked. I can hear the video game store beckoning me from the distance. The beer in the supermarket quietly whispers my name when i walk by. I am having a strange time these days.

The lion's head is great. Good subject for practice .
I think you should try to change the hatching direction more in order to describe every part of the form (roundness for example)
Keep it up of course .

Blahm, cool to see you posting a lot. The cast drawing is coming out. I agree with that fat kid, doing more certainly helps. I have a question, where does one go to get casts? I wouldn't mind doing some myself. But back to subject, keep working man. And then improvement will be even quicker than it is now. Cheers!

    heyyyyyyy Blahm,
    A fresh SKetchbook, yay

ok, heres a thing, ur lines from the beggining are getting better,, BUT

    Use a darker pencil HB, B2, B3, B4

try diff pencils, and try do drawwww everything u find and see intersting,. like if u see ur skull interesting with its shadows, do some drawings of its shadows. the sculpture may not be right, but u are practicing for ur lines and shadows. Get some good anatomy books.

Start drawing from life, DDraw ur room, ur cup, kitchen, stuff,, just lines, n shadows. then if u want do some shadow works too. Draw people, draw animals, draw objects. draw ur self.

Start drawing ur hand, start BY UR HAND, then use ur anatomy books, and see how ur hand works,
skeleton, muscles, abit detailet, just a bit, then ur hand again, draw draw

Next time u want to take a pic of ur drawings, plzz DONT CONCIDER UR SOCK IN O_O ;p jkss
and plzz Edit it in PS. just higher the contrast. THank u

    Keep it up,

Diggin your SB, especially the (Is it vincent price, or maybe CLarc Gable) portrait. Its good to do valuestudies in greys!
I also really like the idea of doin a series of animals roaring/being generally agressive, I think that could translate well into a piece!

Hey Blahm, you shouldn't give up on the cast drawing, it's coming out nicely. Funny thing, the site you gave me for casts was actually statue.com instead of staute.com, had to figure that one out. But yea man, keep on posting. Cheers!

not bad. try using a dark valued pencil, or pressing down firmer to create a greater contrast with the pencil to the paper. youre on your way, with obvious interest, so all i can say is to pay attention to both your studies and those accomplished by others. take what criticism you gain from these into considaration, and be sure to practice, all the time.

    cheers,

    Woodruff

As other people here have said, 'try using a darker valued pencil' well you don't have to do that but you could try to get more tones going you know darker, lighter. Anyway, a new power is arising as SSG8 and we need you at your best.

Zord: Doh! sorry about that typo lol. glad you were able to figure it out.

Aziera: Alot of people tell me that i real life. its like a thing with me i guess haha. My crappy digital camera makes it worse though. And i will keep practicing!

Mein Furer: thanks for stopping by! i am but a loyal subject.

    algebra: thanks alot!

BrentM: yea good to have another like minded person in the group.

Bullfrog: lol, i appreciate that you think that. i drew alot as a kid. More than most i think. I took your advice with photoshop stuff. It makes a huge difference. I was using the doge/burn tool as well to bring out the contrast. I can make it look more like it does in real life now! my camera sucks... alot.
