    A long overdue RAT post!

    "Recalled to Life"

    "And from my back, the canopy outspread;
Though not alive, I surely was not dead."

This is a picture of a dead rat with plants growing from his back. He doesn't mind being dead, because the plants smell very nice. Here is a detail shot:

Please note that my website, www.gorblimey.com (which people have been buggin' me about for ages), has also been "recalled to life". It's not much to look at, but most of my newer work is there.
    Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

    How do you do these?

do you sketch them out before you just stab the ink from the start.

Really nice picture, all of your picture give me that warm cosy feeling, really neat.

    Hi there,
I really love your pen and ink work Socar, its absolutely stunning.

Great subject matter as always and the new site design looks great, its a fantastic showcase for your work!
Be great to see prints available eventually too.

I cant wait to see how your work develops further, its just screaming to be put in a book...but i'm sure you hear that all the time!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Nice work.
Isnt the head a little too round for a rat ? It looks so cute.

Great stuff. There is some great detail in this (including the ones on your site), but it isn't really busy. Its balanced well.

These would make good etchings. Have or do you do any intaglio?

    I'm humbled. Keep em coming.

    nice

    Beautiful piece of work SM,

The intertwining plants look great and would make an interesting picture alone. The dead critter show good imagination and the pic as a whole says rebirth.
    Nice.

Bruce Pluto - Thanks! Glad you like the foliage--I particularly enjoyed drawing that part.

Sems - Yes, the Forest Bride picture was, indeed, also mine.

Shoe - Thanks very much! I haven't done any etching/intaglio--the materials are not in my budget right now. Maybe one day, though.

Vaejoun - Thanks! The head-shape depends on the individual rat. Some of them have long, pointy heads, and others have short muzzles and flat foreheads. This is one of that kind.

    Mandrake - Thanks very much!

Ben Powis - Thanks! I'm planning on scraping a book together one of these days...but it probably won't be for a few years, yet. Got to get a larger body of good work together, first. I wouldn't want some of my older stuff in there, because it's really garbage.

    Arctis - Thank you!

Crash - I draw a sketch, first, in pencil, and then do the inks. It's important for everything to be in the right place before adding a lot of detail or rendering, and it's just easier to do that if there's the possibility of erasing any mistakes.

Blahm - Ha, ha...I'll work on that.

Your inkwork is inspiring as all hell, Socar, beautiful as always. Thanks for the close up, it's nice to see how you handled all those intricate details.
