Hi, I'm new here and new to life drawing. I'm 18 years ago and currently enroll at a community college with a major in fine art. Starting this tread to get advice on what I could improve on in my artwork or sketches.

The New stuff is at the bottom of the tread. If you can give me some comments and criticsims I would greatly appreciate it.

Some of these are nice I would try to start copying works by artist that you like. This will help you learn their approach to drawing. try to copy it even down to the line width and darkness.

bengonzalez thanks for replying, right now i'm kind of lost as an artist. I been studying other artist. I got instructional books, but don't know which way to head in art. In period in time where I haven't seen any improvment in my art. If anyone goes to this tread please post.
I don't posting anything new now, but I will later.

i empathize with you. i too haven't too much studies in life drawings. but like all things it requires practice. i hope to see more of your stuff as you progress.

I really hope that you draw cause you like to draw not for any other reasons. You've got the rest of your life to develop your skills so you are in no rush. I think that anatomy and measurements is the key that will eventually lead you into great things. Really think about what you are drawing before you draw. Drawing in itself is giving and equally taking. I find myself everyday changing from motion to another: One minute I think that someday I will draw brilliant things and the next I'm totally lost in despair. That is what we have to endure if we want to overcome ourselves and learn drawing. Emotional rollercoaster, that's what this shit's all about.

PlaceBoast: Ya, I draw because I like to draw. One day I hope to able reach a certain level where I create something that I think is great.But what I'm trying to get out is that people rarely post on my tread, and really just need hear other peoples opinion.


Styler: Next time I be sure to add more shaded drawings into this tread.
Thanks for posting, it just seems that rarely get post here. I have this here so I can get other opinion on my work. So I can use that so can see from someone else perpective on what I'm doing wrong.

Yeah...I've known this here kid for a four years and I have already seen almost every piece of art he's done. All I have to say is that he has improved immensly since when we met. Keep up the good work dude!! PEACE

hey, this is a good effort you've got going here. i really like to see anamoty studies. my advice would be to keep on with the anatomy studies, and try to focus not just on shapes and placement, but also on value... light, shade, etc.

Looking good, though it looks like you want to do everything at once. Maybe try to focus on one or two things and go on from there.
Your faces need some improvement, try google some things like "drawing noses" or look up some portrait pictures online.

I think you know a lot of theory, now you need to turn the theory into more drawings
Try to draw every day, then you will improve very quickly.

if your feeling your work needs to progress further try filling afew sketchbooks from start to finish it might take afew weeks, but you'd progress afew levels. you dont have to post every page of the sketchbook, i think its good to have some personal sketches that are just for self training.

i took another look at your sb, and i want to tell you that you've come a long way with your anatomy studies, and it's starting to reflect in your figures. i would love to see more anatomy and more of your anatomy studies coming out in your figures. it's hard sometimes to apply what you learn with anatomy to figures, but man, it will make all the difference. keep it up.

Dose206: Ya that what kind of working on right now though. I'm trying to do combo of life drawing and anatomy studies. But you have great anatomy studies though.

Noe: I could see what you mean by the nose in some of drawings. Some of them were quick studies. While other were for completed piece though.

ATI:I guess I could try that instead though. I know I got few dozen of sketches aready posted.

Ya I know kind of study to much theory and right now I'm kind of try put that theory into use.

good job on the sp, it looks like something has frightened you. i'm not sure if that's what you're going for, but it's what you got! i have one thing that i noticed though, there are some yellow reflections on your face that don't seem to belong (under the eye, on the nose, upper lip). there's nothing wrong with yellow highlights, but they should be more consistent throughout the pic. however, traditional paints are not easy, you can't just go back and erase, and i think that this is a really good effort. keep up the fire!

Looking good! I agree about those yellow highlights, but you did a very good job on that sp. I don't like doing traditional paintings a lot because, just what chris said, you cant just go back and erase.
The Irisses have a black circle around them, that makes the eyes look a bit fake maybe, also on the left eye (seen from here <- ) there's a pinkness on the outside of the eye that I don't think belongs there.
Maybe the upper lip need to be a bit darker?

I would like to see the process of one of your paintings. The apple you did was good but you have to remember that it's shiny and will have highlights.
Your anatomy is looking better. Pay attention to the legs they are looking a bit bubbly and stocky (consistently) in your drawings. Consistent is good cause it's easier to fix.

Keep practicing by reference/lifedrawing to get those proportions right...your getting better and better.
when i go through this sketchbook i notice that all your characters have potato noses. You should do a portrait from photo or life reference.
