So i thought i'd start my own sketchbook thread, kind of nerve wrecking for a newbie haha. Most things i have are observational. I would LOVE critique please.

    Very very good sketch !
The encrage is really excellent I find. Special mention for your sketches of persons to Wal*Mart that I find very interessants and especially for the 2 boards just before!
I awaits the continuation for the last board. A beautiful colorisation in perspective!

Unhappy 1st try at speedpainting :/

Thanks for all of your kind words!

Well, i tried speedpaiting. 15 mins.

Could someone help me out in this area? I know it's mainly experimenting and everything, but could some one share their technique?

    hey robin,
first of all nice sketchbook one thing you could try ( dont know if your use photoshop, or painter, or ms paint .. ) try playing with the brushes... try differents settings of opacity , flow , try to put some of these settings on the pressure of your wacom ( if your using one ) , youll soon fine one your comfortable with and thats where the fun begins ! and the eye dropper is your friend when it comes to smoothing your stuff , always cool to grab a color with the eyedropper ( hold alt in photoshop while in brush mode to get the eye dropper ). Also starting digital painting in grayscale before going straight to colors is a good idea... getting strong skills with tones/values before switching to the others things to consider with colors ( hue and saturation )

I took your advise and immediately began experimenting in Painter.

I did some of the exercises in the Peer project thread.

The stuff you did in painter looks pretty nice. The top half of the jar is really good you might try adding more highlight and shadow to the bottom half.

Wow, style going on in your sketches. Blocks of color work better while speedpainting. It's frustrating to get back to the basics when trying digital, isn't it? it will pay off, though. Keep posting.

    Arrow dvd cover

Dvd cover for an Epidemic films documentary.
It was pretty fun doing this, but very stressfull.
Everything was done to the director's wishes.

I had originally wanted the nautical star to be a compass, but it made the composition waaaaay too cluttered.

a few more things are going to be added on: company logo , director's name etcetc.

I like the guy on the DVD cover, but the whole thing as a DVD cover doesn't really appeal to me. Probably just personal taste, though...

Woohoo, there's life agin in the SSG... Last potrait especially looking good. Next step is prbably looking better where the shadows and hichlights are. They are already there in your paintings, mainly on the good spots, but they need more definition. (Watch the hand!)

id agree with above, you jsut need to work on contrast, and suddenly thigns will come to life. places like under the nose and around the eyes could do with having more definition certainly. good progress tho.

    Talking EURO-Trip

So with a brand new sketch book in hand i was ready for adventure and experimentation!
But first some XMen Fan Art.

Done on the 9 hour flight to Paris....but i slept most of the time.

    Stop in Amsterdam

Finally! In Paris! Our Hotel was in Montmatre, with a beautiful view of the Sacre Coeur! 30 second sketch with extra oil added after.

    Passed by the Notre Dame.

View from the Arc de triump. When i finished sketching I turned around to find my family and saw a large group of people were watching me......AWWWKWAARDDD >.<

    Oil practice.

Inspired by a Robbie Williams song

    Work in Prooooogresss!
