updated: PS is doing some strange things when I save this as a jpg. It lightens it about 5%. It's not much, but it forces me to then adjust the lighting controls and I can't seem to get it to match the original PS file. (all the previous painted versions of this character were the lightened version. This is the first post that I've actually tried to match the original. It's closer. Maybe a little too dark in the face)

from what i hear, turning off color management should solve that problem. there's numerous threads in the PS subforum, and it should also be in the ps helpfile as well. lookin good, though yeah, he is a little dark in the face. keep pluggin man, work hard!

Decided to draw a gang of Trolls.

Vox: Eldest member of the group. Not very smart, but always gets his loot.
Nuc: Treasure guard.
The Twins: Usually they're used for small ambushes. They hide just off the road to the village and make away with small steals.
Ztirf: Disfigured...even for a troll. He's smart, strong, and prideful.
Troll King: This guy's the leader. Pretty much hordes the loot for himself.
Ruz: He's the King's brother. Has a Napoleon complex, and secretly tries to take over operations.
Buc: A good thief, but is getting older. He's loyal to Ruz and is helping him out.
Kuno: Guards the hide-out.
Larnu. Essentially he's the accountant. He's scrawny and doesn't steal much. He's the only one the King trusts to 'handle' the treasure.

Okay. So continuing on with this Villain of the Week project; last week's topic was to create a gang of thieves. I went with some trolls. My friend Chris went with futuristic space pirates. This weeks' topic was to flesh out the design of one of those characters that the other person made up. So he's going to do the Troll King and I'm finishing up The Kid (a kid pirate with robot legs....I've included his original sketch below.)

Just started painting...more to come. (My friend tells me that I need to add glasses, though. So those will be coming too)

Update: Painted in the leg and background some. I'm realizing now though that the head is just too big....I think when I drew it, the robot legs threw me off when seeing his proportions. I'll have to shrink it some.

Some friends of mine who own their own design studio hired me to do some portraits for their 'about us' page on their site, which they're relaunching soon. They wanted them done in a clean, ink-brush look.

I just finished them yesterday, but sadly they wrote back this morning saying they weren't going to use them afterall. They sort of changed their site design since hiring me and it no longer fits...and the portraits sort look too "House Industries" (another design firm), which is what they wanted but I think they had second thoughts.

Great sketchbook! The expression of the robot kid reads really well. That's too bad about the commissioned portraits. The final one looks like it has cleaner line work than the others--if you fix some of those hairy lines, they'll make a really cohesive series.

the ANGRY filipino: Ya know, I do have a background in mind, not sure if i'll get back to it, though. Glad you like the portraits too. I don't think they'll end up using them. I just don't think they'll fit the new design style.

So as everyone can see, the last few pages have all been villains. My friend and I have this blog going where we just design villains and we hope to get something printed up for Comic Con this year. Our initial concept was to make a classified dossier/folder, something that a superhero would build over time to describe all the villains he deals with.

I was kind of bored this weekend and decided to play around with that idea...but expanded it a litttle bit as well. Going for, traveling-the-world journal, where my friend and I go exploring for the world's nastiest villains. So my idea is to show off our artwork, give descriptions of the characters, maybe fingerprints, newspaper clippings, photos of us in real historical settings (I'm going for a 1920-30's motif).

A lot more needs to be done, however. This is just the first step. These pages are meant to be finals in any way.

Decided on doing a chow this week:
E.G. Brownstone: Paranormal investigator; Open interpretation.

Here's what i came up with -

To many in the public, E.G was a normal senior citizen. He lived alone, in a quiet apartment building and kept to himself. He had no family and spoke to few. Many passed him by and would fail to even notice him.

In certain circles, however, E.G was very well known. In fact, he was a legend to some of those in the paranormal underworld. He spent a life time building a reputable career investigating mysteries from all over the world, from all walks of life, dead and alive. He was the best. He never let a case go unsolved.

But during the mid 1970's, at the age 73, mysteries began swirling about E.G himself. Rumors that flew in the face of everything E.G. had built. Many began suspecting a hidden past, covered up and long forgotten. Some even suspected that E.G. was much, much older than he let on. People began questioning his entire career and his successes.

Who really is E.G. Brownstone? Hmmmm
