    Star Wars!!!

This is a starwars piece I just finished. It's graphite, acrylics, and colored pencil on illustration board. Measures about 14 x 19. Comments and crits welcome.

It's close but not quite there.

Yoda's likeness is poor, his jaw is much too square.
The contrast should be strongest on the hands area, where the light source is. They are greyer than his clothing.

Those are the most obvious 2 problem areas for me.

Good to see it in colors. Now to look at it, I noticed something strange with the character relationships. It seems sith lord is isolated, he's like minding his own little evil business while yoda and soldiers fight in the background. It's like he's not interracting with the rest. Would've been better if he's facing yoda, or slightly turned toward yoda and glance at him or something.

I like the idea so far but almost feel the design would make more sense if it were cut off right after the emporers shoulder, admitting the left side. That could be a whole finished piece to me because I get the feeling that Darth Sidious is playing with his electricity powers and giggling like a school girl. Perhaps the hint of him torturing someone, killing or approaching a victum (which may be what you intended) could add more urgency to the piece.

The rendering is pretty good. It does feel a bit unfinished. Especially Yoda and that left side. I think adding more highlights to Yoda will pop him out more. Like on the bottom of his foot that's coming at us. His forehead looks a little strange also. Make Sidious have the most contrast over all though to keep him the main focus. Another cool effect could be to give Yoda a slightly blurred effect so he looks like he's moving quickly.

Those are my suggestions. I like what you've got going on here, man. I just think it needs to be pushed a little more.

the trooper on the left's hand seems attached oddly. quite an overwhelming composition to attempt though...kudos for that.

Sevens - I'll have to pay more attention to Yoda when I draw him in the future but I will deepen those shadows around Sids face and hands. Thanks.

look - in my original sketches I had him cutting his eyes at Yoda but leaving them white like I did made Sid look more evil. I'll try photoshoping some eyes in and see if that improves it.

apollonuevo - Have to disagree about the hand. I can bend mine like that right now but just because it's "correct" doesn't mean it's right. I'm ok with it though. Yeah, it was a big composition but I'm really trying to push myself to get better. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

ArtisticSchmidt - Mmm, my wife's family are Schmidts from Ohio. I wonder if we're distant relatives? Her mom was a Schmidt and her dad was an Urvan...ring any bells? Anyway, you've pointed out some areas that do need a bit more work. I've noticed myself that Yoda's foot and highlights on his face need some attention.

Well, guys. I'm off to do a number of tweaks. Thanks again.

This looks really awesome until you get to yoda, the face looks flat and the feet seems weird. Awesome job on Vagina Forehead and the storm troopers.

    Vagina forehead = emporer
