Im new here....not too great at drawing....
here will be a place for my sketchbook pages.
I've picked up some Loomis stuff and am currently doing things from his material (exercises) and what not...










anyways, sorry for the crappy scans, i drew too lightly for my scanner to pick it up nicely so I had to play around with it in PS. Anyways, any comments are welcomed, I will have more stuff real soon

Hey there Hayabusa, you look like youre on your way, You could try working on the planes of hte head by using tracing paper and drawing over faces of people from magazines, or from those ads like JCpenny etc that come in the mail, that will give you a clear idea. I ll tell ya now so you dont get into the habit, but try drawing male and female heads, i tried doing only male heads first to get it down correctly then do female, but then it ended up that my females look like males. Might as well do both at once. ANd also if youre going to do the people in perspective, remember to keep the proportions, the guy on the right on the page before the colored guy, is quite stumpy. keep working on it and try to get these prportions and muscles down without looking at the loomis reference. goodluck.

thanks for the reply. i really havent had much time to sit down and practise details such as facial features, or muscles, but i will do so as soon as i can...

hey dude, nice name; very ninja.

yeah, there are some things wrong with the girls face, mostly that the head is a bit squished and the jawline is off. the placement of the features is on, but they are not in proportion with the smaller head. the forehead shouldnt be as sharp, it should curve into the top of the skull and the hairline. other than that, not bad. do you use construction when you make faces? like, lightly marking out the shape and contours of the face, roughly placing the features, then after making sure things are where they should be, going back with details and rendering? ive recently started using construction lines when i draw and its made 2000 pounds of difference! my drawings have become more realistic just like that. try it out sometime.
you have really good control over your lines; love the pen work. aiight, get to drawing; good luck dude.

yeah, i used the construction deal on the second face....not so much on the girl..i mean, ive known about that method for ages, ive always drawn the sorta proper way, but i never knew my proportions or the correct way to use construction till a few weeks ago...i guess it does show, at least i think so, since my second face came out a bit better then the chick's

this turned out to be a disaster. the line work seemed nice but as i went to shade it, it just wasnt coming together...i think i was working on some crap paper or the pencils were too sharp...anyways, stay tuned

good studies, head is so damn hard.. doing good, keep at it.

Love the alien, and that arm... the hand/wrist looks off but the blood and the cut is disgustingly real.. the blade...and the blood.. ouch.. Hope that wasn't from a real life..

heads and heads...and more heads... You could never do enough. It's probably a good idea to use some sort guides to help you keep the features in place. keep going dude looking good!
