Cast Drawing, Water Street atelier

This is my first cast drawing. I was doing it to show a certain painter, and he's now accepted me as one of his students. Everyone here talks about Watts, not sure how many people here know much about Water Street.
Anyways, here's what I came up with. It's pencil on paper. This crap is hard! haha

Oh, and I know I took the side by side pictures, but, it's not site-sized.

I did a bit of googling, Jacob Collins? Looks like a great place if it is. Good job on the cast, i started a bargue and never finished it. You're right it's really hard, and i'm sure you put a solid amount of work into this. I'll certainly have another go at it, it was fun, just ... too much work at the time.

That's what I find so amazing about their teachings! They don't use any measuring whatsoever!

yup, jacob collins. he's freakin gooooooood. i put over a month into this, about a month and a half. hopefully i'll have lots of fun and learn a ton (it rhymed!) we'll be studying every day from, like, 9-5ish... 7 or so hours a day, every day.. it's gonna be great. the guy really knows his crap too.

awesome cast drawing..yeah i thought about the water street atelier and he is not good he is amazing.hehe...but its too fur up north for me ..i have a promblem with cold weather..hopefully you learn a lot there keep us updated....im going to an academy in carolina..for three years..see how it goes to..

Were did you get your casts from?

I have The Eye of David, and some other greek reliefs from Bulgaria.

I'm looking for the rest of Davids face parts; but the only place I saw them at was at Carsonsexton and most of the details were washed away and the cast was made of plastic.

I'm also looking for Asaro's Planes of the Head, I know it was discontinued but perhaps you know someone who's selling theres?

that's where I got mine. they're $40 a piece, you can pick which head detail you want.

Allejo: yeah, Jacob Collins is a freakin AMAZING artist. I got to see his work at the studio, and they look even better in real life.
But yeah, I'm from western Pennsylvania, so, I'm used to the cold weather! Though I'm not used to the big city, so that is reeeaaally gonna be different to me. I'm kinda nervous about it, but in a "this is gonna be so awesome" kind of way. Moving out of mom and dad's house to study under a guy who's painted presidents and in prestigious galleries... it's exciting. Anyways, have fun in Carolina!

Patdzon: Yup, no measuring devices or anything. None of the sight-size stuff. It's all just learning to move your eyes... cool stuff.

One more question what are these casts made out of? Plaster? I was looking at some of the other casts and the prices were extreme so that must scratch out plastic....

Yup, the casts are made out of plaster. They're good quality, which is why they charge a decent price. That or they just charge more for the same thing and I *THINK* it's better quality. Either way, I'm happy with it, and its where Jacob Collins' recommended I buy it. He recommended there, or at this place in NYC, of which I couldnt find a website for. I don't even remember its name.

There's other places, like sculpture.com and stuff like that, I think.

PolinaH: I tried taking an up close photo of it 19203812 times, but it just looks like a big white blob. My digital camera sucks...

Icey: a month on a cast drawing really isnt that long. that's how long most atelier students spend on their cast drawings. they typically spend 3 hours a day for a month, for about 60 hours total. That's Water Street, Florence Academy, Atelier Lack, etc. It teaches ya DISCIPLINE and PATIENCE! haha.
